inhaler

Hey everyone. I have yet needed to use my inhaler. But I find since coming off the steroids for a week the asthma symptoms are back. They don't ever seem to escalate to what I would guess you would call a full on asthma attack. But I wasn't wheezing really on the steroids...and now the wheezing will come back.

I am not able to see a Dr. for a while. They all are booked. And when I can see a specialist I have no clue.

So my question is I have yet to use the inhaler. I struggle with anxiety as well so I feel really anxious a lot and can't tell the difference. Also I feel really nervous using the inhaler. First I have heard they can make things worse? Does this happen? Basically what will most likely happen when I first use it? I don't know why I am so nervous to use it.

But I notice when I am out in the car...cold dry air. I start to wheeze and I have to drive 11 hours home. So I guess I should take a puff from the inhaler before I drive home. I am just worried about the effects while I am driving. I also read the new inhalers are not as effective? That scares me seeing I am off the steroids which I noticed helped. And I am only on Zyrtec and the pro air inhaler.

Also if I am just wheezing is that a asthma attack? Like I said I find this all confusing. I am finding it hard to distinguish symptoms. I am afraid I will ignore them and have a full on attack.

" Yes, inhalers can make you a little shaky but in my experience, it has never been that bad. It is probably different for everyone, but I would think you should take a puff before you drive home. Wheezing is a sign of an asthma exacerbation, I would definately start doing the inhaler right away. If you feel worse, go to the ER immediately, especially since you are unable to go to the dr. "

" Many times a cup of hot coffee will avoid a problem for me when I begin to wheeze slightly. Using your Pro-air is OK ..just don't over use it. Maybe some deep breathing techniques to help you relax would be worth your time to learn ? Hope your drive goes well. "

" Thanks. I have thought about using it before I try to drive home. I am just worried about using it then having a bad side effect and having to drive home or be on the road. So just trying to see if it was a good idea to use it for the first time before I get on the road. Problem is my asthma is triggered by the air here and cold/dry air. So its like I have at least 4 hours of driving through this kind of air. "
