hypoallergenic bed

Does anyone have a hypoallergenic bed? What is it made of and where do you get them? One that doesn't have doesn't have the "new bed " smell.

I am in the market for a bed , most beds have tons of chemicals . I just wondered what everyone else did.I already have one of those plastic covers to put on the bed, but it is not doing the trick. I was thinking of buying a used bed, but that seems like a gamble.

" Hmm. You ask an interesting question. There are all kinds of dust mite covers (mine for example, zip up to really seal it). Do you have an air purifier running? I would guess that would clear the air from the "new mattress" smell. Good thing to consider when buying anything new. I wonder if you could air it out for a few days first. For me, the new car smell is a trigger for me as I cannot stand that "great smell". I hope you find some good suggestions here, Sue488! "

They describe a hypoallergenic mattress that doesn't bother your allergies. i would imagine it still has the new bed smell though.

It seems like letting it "air out" might be the only other option. I would worry about how long it could take though.

Maybe there is some kind of spray that you could use to diffuse the odors. Or maybe there is a way to "wash" it.

Good luck and let us know what you find out. This is a very interesting situation.

" Just FYI. Airing things out isn't a good idea because if your allergies consist of trees, weeds, grasses, mold, etc... they will collect on the fibers of the mattress. I am not aware of a allergen free bed. There are covers, of different qualities, that are used to prevent odors, bacteria, and microorganisms. The new bed smell would be covered by the mattress cover, I believe. Air cleaners clean the air but not so much on the allergens in the fibers of a couch, rugs, carpet, etc... it's not until the allergens enter the air does the air cleaner do anything, and that is only if it stays in the air long enough for the air cleaner to get to it. There will always be dust. "

" I have a select comfort bed and although it is not hypoallergenic I can keep it clean by vaccumming it out. It had no smell upon putting it together and I love it. "

" To air out a new mattress, put it in a spare room (at parent's house maybe?) with as many air purifiers as possible and seal off the room. "

" It won't remove the chemicals from the fibers but nice try. "
