Has anyone been prescibed Spiriva for asthma. My doctor did about a year ago and I am still taking atrovent 2 puffs 4 times a day. I am really under control until I get a cold or pnuemonia (which I have been fighting for 6 weeks) then I have issues. My point is I have had pnuemonia 3 times this year alone and never had it before going on the spiriva, any suggestions. Before the spiriva I was in and out of the hospital every 6 weeks.

" I was prescribed xolair and spiriva when I was really bad at one point. unfortunately, I was allergic to both. but xolair helps a lot of asthmatics, so I'd consider that. a combination of flovent and other inhalers helped me a great deal. "

The did the xray thing and it was infection that caused so much problems. "

" I'm on spiriva, advair, xolair, zyrtec, singulair and albuterol. Believe it or not, all this is needed to keep me going. FINALLY, my asthma is under control.

I hate taking medicine, by the way, but what can one do? "

" Spiriva is a long acting inhaler whihc lasts for 24 hours hence why only takle it once a day either mroning or night. It is from the same family as atrovent. Atrovent is ipatropium and spiriva is tiotropium. It is starnge that you take both as both are effectivly doing the same and often dont compliment each toher well. I used to take spiriva but dont anymore as dont have the lung function to work the inhler device so now have atrovent nebs instead. Cant help much wiht why you are getting more infection since being on sprirva. only a suggetsion but maybe coz you airways are more open and therfore more bugs can get down. but dont really know.

hope you get an answer
