Discussion:
Saline and breathing

I have been having problems for 11 months and have never been diagnosed with anything.
I was always told it was anxiety but I never believed it.
Recently I was told I may have a lung problem but further tests will have to be done before a diagnosis can be made.

Seeing as doctors won't try anything on me, I have started to treat myself with saline solution that I put in my nebuliser. It does help but of course it will only give temporary relief.

If a saline solution is helping, what could be causing my severe breathing problems?

" Respiratory infection, your asthma, lack of hydration but idk if that would make breathing difficult. I use saline too. It helps. "

" Hmm, surely doctors would've picked up on an infection.
Yeah, I was thinking asthma but the doctors always say it doesn't seem like an asthma thing.
I would say I am resonantly hydrated. Yeah, me neither.

Yeah. I wish I had've known about it way earlier.
The nebules I usually take in my nebuliser make me feel worse and get my heart racing heaps fast, it's scary.
Saline treatments don't do those things to me.
I just get a slight throat irritation from it which causes me to cough. "

" You might just be having a respiratory allergic reaction to something, it sounds more like a lung allergy then anything else.. Have a wide spread allergy panel done on you by an allergist, maybe they will be able to find the problem.. "

" Hi - You are contaminating your lungs. Any liquid that goes to the lungs needs to be demineralized. Sodium/salt is not good for your lungs. STOP PUTTING THAT SALINE IN THE NEB IMMEDIATELY.

Just because it did not kill you the first time does not mean it is not harming you.

" If saline was bad for you why would a DOCTOR tell you to mix your albuterol with it? "

" That I do not know. However - when using a cpap sleep apnea device one only uses distilled water so that no dirt gets into the lungs.

I honestly think you are making a mistake. The saline in vapor form can easily pick up dirt and deposit it into your lungs. Plus the saline itself contains sodium particles which are not supposed to be in the lungs as far as I know.

I will ask a few doctors to get their take on this.

I was just trying to protect you - nothing else.

hugs "
