Does Allergies equal Asthma??

My 4 year old Son has Asthma and allergies, the funny thing is that his asthma flare ups are not cenetered around his allergies. I have only noticed his flare ups when he is sick with a cold and I should note that it is never just a cold. It usually turns into bronchitas.
He is sick constantly and it seems like I am going to the docs ervery 6 weeks or less. His night time cough gets so bad and nothing works. Any suggestions??
He is currently on the following:
Singulair-Not sure why
Pulmacort-2/day
Xeponex/Albuterol-DOes not work for cough.

" No, allergies do not equal asthma. I thought it for a long time and I have severe asthma and allergies and my kids have it too. Then my 4 year old does not have asthma but does have allergies . I always thought they had to ahve both but they don't.
The allergies will come and go, sometimes a single cough or stuffed up nose can set the asthma off. The medication is good for your son. My daughter is 4 too who has the allergies and she is on Nasonex,Singulair and Zyrtec it does help . "

" I had asthma from being born to sixteen and when I didn't have asthma I had eczema and visa versa. I grew out of it when I started smoking and drinking of all things. Asthma is a nervous complaint whether it is coincidental I don't know. I got the asthma back in my forties where I had to use inhalers etc, but just recently in my fifties I've been drinking a lot of tea, mabe eight cups per day and for the last three months I haven't needed to use my inhalers at all. I looked it up and found that tea (just normal tea) has the same effect as using the salbutamol inhaler. It dialates the small branches in the lungs to make you breathe better.
It also dialates the veins stopping blood clots etc. "

" Hey... I have sympathy for you. I went to a workshop for asthma in Feb., and the nurse that gave it said "Singulair only works for 50% of the population." Have u looked into supplements? Have they tested his blood for nutritional deficienies? I only ask bc I'm on advair, zyrtec, etc... and it was only mildly helping, until I started taking supplements. I take chloryphill (which turns out it has magnesium), selenium, and glutamine. Also acidophilus-- GNC makes one that is all natural, and strawberry flavor, my 1 and 3 year old even like that. Well good luck... I know how frustating it is playing the guessing game. "

" I have allergies and asthma.
Just because you have one doesn't mean you'll have the other.
I take singular it works great for me along with Flonase and Astelin. "

" Not everyone with Allergies has Asthma. Something else must be triggering you son's asthma. Colds, infections, are a big trigger in children with asthma. My son, is 5 and he has Asthma and allergies. His does that with colds, infections also. Singulair medication helps allergies, and helps asthma. "
