Albuterol vs ProAir

I know they have taken albuterol inhalers off the market. I was recently on a site where over a thousand people signed a petition and wrote a note...Albuterol works...ProAir has ethanol in it and is making some peoples lungs burn. When you go to the doctor for a refill...as for something that does not have ethanol in it...we do not need it in our lungs. We cannot breath the way it is

my 15 year old daughter has had asthma since she was about 4 years old.
When they switched to the Pro-Air, she didn't get relief from it. So we got her a pocket sized nebulizer with single use Albuterol ampules. She uses that now and carries the Pro-air only for rescue.

I've been changed from albuterol to pro Air and now to Xopenex HFA (levalbuterol tartrate) as my rescue inhaler. Anyone have any luck with Xopenex? It doesn't make you as shaky but I'm not quite sure it is as effective. I'm thinking it is similar without the side effects.

heartafter- I am on Asmanex. I really liked my old steroid inhaler that was in a pink container, can't remember what it was but it was taken off the market. This is the first winter I made it threw without being put on prednisone, so I think with the asmanex, and intal my asthma is holding okay, as long as there aren't any outside/inside overly allergic things setting it off. Does anyone here take Maxair in place of Proair. I was on albuterol and liked it, then my pulminary dr. gave me proair and then switched me over to maxair. I have only had to use it once as my preventatives are doing the job so far. I just hate when they mess with stuff that does help people. If the ozone layer is that important with all the carbon problems, perhaps congress should limit themselves to how much hot air they are allowed to use in a day that is depleting the ozone. !!!!!

My daughter is on Singulair and it is wonderful. That along with weekely allergy shots have cured her chronic sinus problems and have made her asthma attacks non-existant.
The only negative I've noticed is that she has gained a few pounds on it and she is moody. But those are "expected" sides from the drug.

I should clarify she is "moody" moreso regarding PMS.

Thanks Sockfuzz, only the last thing I need is more weight and moods. I have enough of those now-LOL. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try singular.
