Albuterol vs ProAir

I know they have taken albuterol inhalers off the market. I was recently on a site where over a thousand people signed a petition and wrote a note...Albuterol works...ProAir has ethanol in it and is making some peoples lungs burn. When you go to the doctor for a refill...as for something that does not have ethanol in it...we do not need it in our lungs. We cannot breath the way it is

Right. They changed the propellant because of the ozone problem. Sooner or later the older albuterol is going to be gone though, so I plan to try the new type and see if I get that same effect. What choice do we have anyway? Might as well get a free one.

You may want to go to the site and print the voucher out. Then get a prescription for this new one (proair) and give this a try. It shouldn't cost you a thing.
It is NOT a replacement for Advair. It is albuterol for people that need rescue inhalers. It is the same medicine but a different propellant. GramsG says it has ethanol (alcohol)which is inhaled and might give you a burning feeling as it did for her, but it is worth trying before we are stuck with this thing (while the old albuterol inhalers are still on the shelf). Know what I mean? GramsGard did I get this right? :-)

I have been on ProAir for months and have not had any problems with it, including the burning in the throat. As this is the only one I have been given, I can't really compare. Maybe your doctor can give you a couple of samples, mine did.

My son hates the proair! He hasnt said anything about burning lungs, probably cause his chest hurts already when he takes it, but he doesnt like "the taste", and he complaines that it gives him an instant headache. Anyone else have that problem?

My husband asked my son's asthma dr about giving him an inhaler and he gave us a prescription for an Albuterol inhaler. I am not going to make him take something that makes his lungs burn, ozone or not! I will have to call the Target Pharmacy where we fill his prescriptions and see what they say I guess.

No ME,....just know both are albuterol...it is the propellant that is different. Also, eventually, the old kind will not be available. I will stick with what I have too but will get a new version to see how I respond to it. I have several inhalers around my apt, in my purse, I tend to refill after 30 days whether I need to or not. I want to be able to reach and grasp it no matter where I am. I am glad they didn't just stop making albuterol! I don't know what I'd do. :-)
