I was switched last year from Advair 500 to Spiriva and it did nothing for me. I'm back on Advair 500. The switch was during a time when my doctor was trying most anything to see what might help get my asthma under control. From everything I read, Spiriva is for COPD and generally doesn't help someone with asthma. My doctor was just trying anything that was available hoping to get me some relief.

Thanks for the replies. I can't tell if its helping yet, it's only the 3rd day i've used it. I'm just really frustrated with my asthma right now. It was under control for years until last spring. I've been at the dr. more in the last year then I have in the last 15 years. I just want to breathe good again.

Christina,
I don't have any helpful advice. I am in the same position as you. My breathing was fine three months ago and now I can't get it back on track. Just know that you are in good company! Tracie

Kyna - I think the symbicort works ok, although I do have flare ups more frequently then I would like.

I was on it...placed on it by one pulmonologist and when he left, his replacement remarked: that's unusual. I don't think you need that. I had perceived it helped initially when i was very ill, but i was too sick to really know if it was spira or the breathing treatments that were helping. My allergist never suggests me to be on Spiriva for the type of asthma I have..I think it is more for people with COPD actually. I'm glad I'm off of it personally because it was an annoying contraption to have to use first thing in the morning! I don't miss it. For you though, whatever gives you relief, try. It cannot do damage or I would hope not, so give it some time and talk to your doctor, okay? Let us know if it works for you.

I was on Spiriva for a while, along with Advair 250. I have very reactive lungs and I think it helped them to be a little less twitchy (which is why my dr prescribed it), but I couldn't tell for sure either. I went off of it after 2-3 months because I got tired of it, too, and I didn't notice any difference without it. I have a friend who has COPD and she says it helps her quite a bit. If I remember right, it takes several days for it to take effect, so maybe there's hope...
