a quote from another topic is, "I agree that Auties and Aspies percieve the world differently."

How do you view the world?

I view the world as confusing and I have a flabbergasting, jaw dropping disbelief at how cruel and closed-minded people are.

Even on my good days, when I wake up, see the sun shining, and know everything is right, by the end of the day, I go to bed completely exhausted and disenfranchised with the whole frigging lot of it.

" i just dont understand the statement that autistics and ASrs percieve the world differently. ive seen that written here and that other forum. what does it mean? im trying to get a clear view of how people with as percieve the world, compile it and understand. i dont understand the statement, that's it.

yeah, i asked my psychiatrist how many people i have to have around me before i don't notice being on people's backburners but he couldnt give me a number. cause if i had a number i'd have something to work toward. "

" i think we view the world more anaylitically... which isn't how the world should be views... so that itself sets us apart.... (or thats atleast what i find)

another thing is that i feel people percieve the 'truth', and the 'right' thing as one in the same... yet i feel they are very different "

" Hi again Sigs

I will respond to this as I have often before we with AS do see our world quite different from NT's because our brains our wired differently (is it better or worse is debatable)

For most of us with AS we see our world as if we are on an Alien Planet,

Like AliceH perspective of everthing being coded but being left out of the special club or not being given or equipped with a decoding book or decoder ring etc.

It is nearly impossible for us to understand all the communications, social customs, social etiquette, to make friends and maintain friendships, even harder to develope and maintain serious romantic and long term relationships because most we come across are NT's we have difficulty understanding and who also struggle to understand us because we are so different and seem alien to this planet

This world often brings a flood of overpowering and over stimulative things to Us making navigation that much more difficult in many areas

Super sensitive hearing is a real difficulty in city areas and a down side there but in the mountains and wilderness the same is a real upside in the smallest sounds can be heard, (ant wrestling with a pine needle, snake crawling over crisp autumn leaves)

Sunlight being brighter to us due to being born with AS its more important for us to be sure to wear sunglasses and eye protection outdoors

Most of us are more Stimulated and sensitive to Music

Most of us also are more sensitive to emotions, both of our own and others around us often to the point of being hyper and over sensitive to this emotional stuff

Like Dawn mentioned viewing or seeing things as Black and White can aid us in how we see and navigate it... because it can simplify things so they are less confusing to us

We live in a world where NT's are the majority so by sort of a majority rules system it has become NT friendly and AS unfriendly because we are in the minority...

But in the day to day dealing with these basic facts we with AS are stronger than our NT counter parts because of the difficulties we have endured from birth onward

Often by adulthood we have adapted, adjusted to our environment, changed how we interact within it or how we respond or act in it which often masks and hides the difficulties we have with it, by then it has become automatic like a sort of Auto-Pilot mode

This is why I'm wring my book "I Am Your Superman" like superman of comic book and movie fame its like I was born alien to planet earth

everything is foreign to me here like I wasn't meant to live here, harsh confusing difficult to navigate all things but thru doing so I have many strengths that the natives here also do not

like man of Superman's special powers Superior strength, Superior problem solving, better vision there are many of them for all our deficiencies we have many things that in opposition to those are real gifts we must use to our advantage

Walt "

" I actually see that exact same reaction from my daughter from day to day.
As a parent of a teenager with Aspergers/Mild Autism I see her struggle with the way the world is & the way (in her mind) it should be.
I joined this group in order to better understand her daily challenges, so I can help her deal with "reality". I'm new to all this & have gone through many different challenges with her.
There are so many phases for her. I had a hard time getting a diagnosis from the doctors.I don't think they could understand either. The first one told me (@ age 4) A.D.D. Many pediatricians would tell me she just had a strong immagination and that was normal for her to rock while playing & tune out everything (including bathroom breaks). And as she started getting older it got worse. This, for me, was frustrating so I talked to our pediatrician again (@ age 9-10). She referred us to a pediatric neuropsychologist, that told me that what was going on with my daughter was complex. That she was Mildly Autistic & asked if I had heard of Asperger Syndrome. Of course as a parent you don't want to believe the extent of what you are hearing, but it did open my eyes wide, over the course of the next 2 years I watched & listened even closer & decided it was time to get a 3rd oppinion. And what do you know this doctor did not dance around his diagnosis for her. He came straight out & said the exact same thing as the neuropsychologist, she has Asperger Syndrome with some Autistic Traits. She is now 13 and I am trying to learn as much as I can.
I would love to hear more about some of the daily challenges others have experienced with AS, please. "

" Oh Sigs you answer your own questions! You're "trying to get a clear view of how people with as percieve the world, compile it and understand it" But you have AS and you say you percieve the world as (among other things) "confusing and flabbergasting". And you can see from other people's responses they can perceive it another way. It would be very difficult to compile all the different ways people can view something. It's not like a set of dice, where a person could turn a cube over and count up all the sides. I know you asked your psychiatrist for a number, but that's why he couldn't give you one.
I've read the different responses, and the Aspie responders really seem to have kinda the right idea about the differences in thinking.
I wouldn't worry about who sees what and just work on seeing more of the sunshine!

(hugs to ccline and her daughter) "

" The words that come to mind are "blissfully ignorant." I go about my daily life wanting to scream "How can you people not see the world around you?"

It's tough. For the most part, I am annoyed with it but I also understand that I see things differently than most people. "

" I don't look @ it as "blissful ignorance". This way of thinking is "uniquely (I don't even know if that is a word) & intelligently creative. Everyone should just go with it, unless it puts others in harms way. If the person with A.S's thoughts will put themselves or others in harms way, then I could see a reason to appose the thought & try to explain the danger in the way they think. This would help with the A.S person's self esteem. Because we all NT's & AS's have a right to oppinions & beliefs. And we don't always have to judge. "
