Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has taken meds for racing thoughts, by which I mean the chronic mental reliving of bad events in the past and/or the imagining of hypothetical events. If so, what did you take and what was your experience? Thanks. Posted on 07/22/12, 01:00 pm |

This may sound completely nuts but the only thing that has truely helped me is rocking. I had been obsessing for a week or more about things and my brain was hurting so much. I was sitting in one of those chairs where the back gives a little and started moving very slightly back and forth and then a little to one side. Within less than five minutes my brain shut off.
The technicalities of why this works is, I think, the brain starts focusing on motion and balance which trumps thought. I can find just the right pace and movement that shuts my thoughts down and I get lost in the motion. Doesn't help so much with the really big issues of life but works for the transient stuff like obsessing on situations/interactions/predictions. I think kids know this works instinctively, aka stiming. Pacing works well too for me.

My son has found that reading a good book helps him to change his focus. Also, he takes Melatonin nightly (3mg), and it relaxes his brain, enabling him to sleep. Otherwise, he may not be able to turn off his brain. Check with your doctor to see if you can take Melatonin. My son's doctor allowed up to 5mg, but we found that 3mg works, but there have been a few exceptions when he has awoken in the middle of the night unable to sleep, so we have given a second dose and that worked.

I know I have stuff happen like that , but really I have found afew things that make me not bang my head against a wall , I am one that if in that will almost to obsseivly look into projects that I can do , the last was final modifications I wanted to do to my desk , dont know what your into , if music find something on the happier side , if into gaming drown it out in a game etc . its kinda a person specific thing

If you have been dienosed correcly some of these remidiied sujested can actualy make it worse one of the comin factors with this condition is ADD or ADHD When it comes to meds the Best I have found is high power stimulents like Adderal I take a low dose thoughout the day and a high dose with cappicino at night I have found that my minds own melitonin drasticly incresses my thoughts as well as my higher functions of the mind and also I use a high dose of Geodon to help quiet the higher awarrness as well as the senitivity to others.
Simulare maisfatations of this disorder than you will need more than just rocking although that will help but even after the stimulants I must eat chochlet and listen to an real captivating audio book and focus your let the words go to your subconses mind and focus your attention on the space between the words I uses this every night and every night I start at the last track I can remeber and usally fall asleep with in a few tracks and as long as I take a high dose of Aderal I sleep long and good also my most recent discovery is that even the higher levels of awarrness can be quieted down by short but very intense straith workouts the dopimine rush is the best stimulant I have ever used. I would recomend that over even a high dose of Aderall although I use both.
