How do y'all (that's Texas talk) feel about this new TV show?

I find the characters lovable. An adult friend of mine with AS feels that the show is simply an opportunity for Neurotypicals (NT's) to laugh at people with Asperger's and others who are "different" in some way.

Which way do you feel about it?

" I don't think the super smart are neurotypical--far from it. I make fun of them on the show-I think it is a funny show. We cannot be too serious about it, afterall it is TV. It is meant to provide comedy and fun-which I think it does. "

" I am not the only one who finds these characters as asperger-like?
Good thought it was just me.
I don't see it as people laughing at 'us.'
in my home we all have quite the sense of laughing at ourselves humor anyway so our home is in that way a situation comedy.
I don't like shedding light on 'us' so to speak. So in that sense i don't care for all the attention 'we' are getting these days. Its as if tv execs' are saying, jump on the aspergers hot track while this is hot guys and write eccentric humor. Its big right now. BUT the alternative is the cure-mongers shouting : There is an epidemic!!!
So I prefer to see 'us' portrayed on the sitcom ...I mean its meant for fun, it IS a sitcom and I don't like the nerd word, never did. I do like happen to personally know people like those characters. I don't make fun of them at all- in fact I'm endeared to them. They could be me, many facets of me and people I care about on the spectrum over the last well since around 94 is when I've known about aspergers but of course dx'ed with it has "known" it all their lives.
It isn't said implicitly but there IS a writer in there who has modelled after us-I just know it and I am glad someone brought this up. I was planning on mentioning it.

" I love it, cause I can relate to them and they are actually able to get along with someone normal. This is the first show I really get and laugh at. Perhaps that does say something, but I don't really care. "

" Oh yeah thats another reason why I love the show. I can relate to all the issues they have about routine changing and throwing things off kilter, or being so invovled with something they don't notice someone opening up the door.
I think it is actually great to show the issues 'non normals' have maybe others can laugh and feel bad and it might help :D "

" Hi, I havent seen this show, but my partner just mentioned it to me.I have no problem with the show if its not harming anyone in teh style of soem shows. Btw, anyone here watch the HBO series Curb your Enthusiasm? The main male lead is Larry David, writer/producer of the show. (he was the writer for Seinfeld also) Anyway, His character is defintely aspie! I lol :) lots with this show. Cuz i identify with him and he also reminds me of aspies i know. I will have to check out the show mentioned here and see if i like it.

Jess "
