Trying to Make the right decisions

I feel anxious that sometimes I could make the wrong decision on behalf of my child .I felt this awful wave of sadness today as when I took my daughter of 14 to the rheumy he said it wasn't her Jra affecting her knee this time he mentioned something about anterior knee pain unknown .To come off the naproxen and she is now off the joint list and just got to do physio . However when I took her to the Gp 4 days ago he said the knee is very badly swollen which I see it is and he said he could extract the fluid there and then
for her .As my daughter is needle phobic and usually has a general anaestetic so she is out cold .I said no that would not be possible .I did think of trying to really coax her to have it done and push her to get it fixed straight off with him. I put this to the rehumy he said the doc would have not found any fluid . So in my mind I'm thinking as aparent I just feel scared I could hear one doc and take their advise and this is my child they are prodding and injecting and it makes me feel vunerable to making the wrong choice for her . I asked what other drugs were there now also for Jra he said the only difference between now and 10 years ago when she was first dx was not they joint inject instead of using naproxen first .....

" What are the chances that the knee issue is really unrelated to the JIA?? Not very likely, IMHO. I wonder if you should get a new rheumy. I know you don't want to start over, but if the GP recognized it must be the JIA that she has already been diagnosed with, then I think perhaps he needs to talk to your rheumy, or find a more like minded specialist.

I hear you when you are nervous about what to do on making choices for your child. I have heard great things about injecting the steroids into the joints. I am not sure about removing the fluid. Wouldn't they do a test (MRI or xray) before doing any injections? That way you can be sure before poking her that it is necassary and needed.

And, you need to remember. Some docs graduated at the top of their class, and some graduated at the bottom. If you aren't happy, then switch drs. Treatment shouldn't be so confusing for the parent if the drs know what they are doing. Kymberli "

" I have had my knees and elbows aspirated twice. Once with anesthia when I was young about 8 and once again when I was 20 without anesthesia - just numbing cream. I almost also a needle phobe. In my experience it was clear there was fluid in my joints due to amount of swelling and limited mobility in my joints. When they did the removal of fluid and injection or cortisone, I'm not going to lie, it was very painful. The next day though I had full mobility and little to no pain so I would say it was worth it. I also do Humira injections (if you get the pen you never see the needle) which has really helped also. Hope all works out for you and your daughter. "
