Pain so bad

I have had arthritis since 20 years of age, but in the last two years it has become a major problem. I take panadol osteo and fish oil, but the panadol is not doing anything. The arthritis is creeping into all my joints and I am having trouble functioning. Strangely enough out summer last year, a very hot one, made it so much worse and I am not looking forward to another one this year. I was wonderfing what other things I could take for the pain. My Dr doesn't seem to be very receptive in this case. I cannot take anti inflammatories as they upset my gut, and being on a pension can't afford glucosamine. Any one got any ideas PLEASE. My back , neck and shoulders are the worst, but it is in every joint except my knees. Would be grateful for some suggestions. Thanks.

Sorry to hear you have so much pain. I know what its like and it sucks. It is a very difficulty problem to live with and doctors in this country (US) are miserable at caring for it. If you are taking the highest dose of panadol and fish oil and need something more, and cannot take NSAIDS, then the next step here would be something like tramadol (Ultram). I don't know if that is available in AUS. It works in a similar but different way to narcotics. The hydrocodone Yvette mentioned is good for pain, but it is a narcotic and doctors are very hesitant to put people on those for chronic pain - even though it is indicated. If your life is such that you could take narcotics regularly, then that is definitely an option. Here you would have to go to a pain management doctor to get it though. Otherwise, you might try physical therapy or alternative options such as accupuncture, massage, chiropractic. Ice and/or heat is another option. Biofeedback and meditation can be helpful as well. Wish there was some magic bullet for you, cause I'd take one too! Good luck

" Hi merylou52,
I am a fellow aussie from newcastle nsw. I am sorry to here you are doing it so tough.
I also find the summer the worst and cannot tolerate the heat!
maybe you will have to go on a short course of prednisone to relieve the inflammation. My doctor sometime does that. Also sometimes gives me some meds to help protect the gut when anti inflamms are necessary. They are tablets used for stomach ulcers but not sure what there called.
Hope you get some relief soon Hugz Juney "

" The only alternative pain relief that seems to be working for me is that my body was very acidic so I have been working on getting it into a more alkaline state through diet and putting 1/2 tsp of baking soda(from the health food store - no aluminum) in a glass of water before I go to bed along with a magnesium tablet.
Also I didn't realize that I was dehydrated most of the time. It's very important that our bodys' electrical system has enough plain water and extra sea salt (for electrolytes). I drink at least half my body weight in ounces every day. It helps to wash out the uric acid in the joints. If you want more information go to watercure2.org. The testimonials are very interesting - so are the books.
I don't drink coffee or tea as caffinated drinks make the body acidic.
Sometimes I put lemon juice in the water - contrary to belief, the body converts the lemon juice from acidic to alkaline.

I hope this will help you. Take care.
