Hi, I also have the same thing going one. I am having surgery 7/15 to replace the joint in the big toe, clean up the bone spurs. It is very painful, and I completely understand how you are feeling. I have been unable to bend the toe for several years now, but over time it has become more and more painful.

I was always concerned about the recovery and never considered surgery. It's very hard to walk and I end up walking on the outside of my foot. The dr said they are using a material that is a bendable type of plastic. Hopefully it goes as smoothly as the dr explained.

Supposedly I will be able to bear weight on it, and I will wear a boot for about 2 wks, then a soft shoe. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good luck with the op blackeyedsuzie - I was told that we can weight bear as he felt it was also the best option for me as I have had four spinal surgeries and have a chronic back and I would not be able to use crutches. I'll be thinking of you - do let us know you you get on Take care, B

Hi Rozetaz - The foot specialist diagnosed my toe arthritis after he took and xray, before then my GP thought it was a bunion so sent me to see the foot specialist who first gave me a cortisone injection which only lasted a couple of days then the pain was back again. For a correct diagnosis you need an xray. Good luck B

Hi, I had this surgery and it was quite successful. It took 6-9 months to walk without any pain but it's good now. My job involved a lot of walking so maybe I took longer to heal right up. You'll be glad, I'm sure. Take the painkiller regularly!! faye
