Just wondering has anyone ever heard of a MCL being cut during surgery and anchor sutured?-- This happened to me now I have to have a revision--not even a year yet has passed and the pain is really horrible.

" I'm curious, was the MCL cut accidently or as part of the procedure they were doing? I have heard of them anchoring ligaments - they basically sew them to the bone. If this is the same surgeon, perhaaps you should get a second opinion? It could be that you formed excess scar tissue too. Hard to say with so little information. There is much that can go amiss when they chop up joints. I have two destroyed now and a third that needs replacing. ridiculous. "

" Hi: sorry it took me so long to get back with you--so hard sitting at the computer now. I have had 2 other opinions and am comfortable with this last doctor. I fired my old doctor. I wish this one that did my surgery would retire. My new doctor feels it was an accidental cut and anchored together--but not to the bone.--and I guess this was the quickest way to do the repair--although there are other ways to do this repair. It was an anchor suture that has now keloided.I appreciate your reply--I agree--it is rediculous that surgery can sometimes make you worse--especially having it done with a doctor that does things the oldfashioned way. I had to retire and was granted my Social Security disability after only 3 months after filing. The pain is unreal. Another doctor has said that cuttting the MCl is not part of a knee replacement. "

" No, they do not cut the lateral ligaments in a knee replacement. THose are kind of needed to stabilize the replacement. Sounds like a botched job. That sucks. Are they going to fix it for you? Can they? I am struggling with tryong to decide what to do with my damn ankle that hurts like hell all the time. It needs replacing or fusion and my doc doesn't want to do it. The knee on the same leg needs replacing too and I'm just about at my wit's end. I don't have months and months to take off work for surgery after surgery. But I am so limited in what I can do now because of the pain, its absurd. I just don't know what to do. "

" You are so right--they were not supposed to cut this ligament--and we are finding out it looks like a botched job. I am waiting on the Cat scan and the consultation next month. My new doctor says he will revise it for me--most other doctors would not even touch it. So sorry about your ankle pain--I have a friend who was in a wreck and she has had 2 surgeries on her ankle and has been in a lot of pain too. And that is why I had to retire--I was in too much pain to work and couldnt get the time needed to get better. I am also facing another replacement on the other knee--I had such a bad time with this last surgery--Only because of the mercy of God I made it--I had multiple bilateral blood clots in my lungs, collasped lung and pneumonia. ANd yes I am a bit nervous about more surgery--but the pain is too much --I am ruinning my shoulders using them to get up from one chair to stand--I sure hope things get better for you--I really have a reputable doctor now and am more at peace about this doctor and hospital--thanks for your advice and I will keep you in my prayers-- "

" Lela,
I'm glad you have a good doctor now. That makes the world of difference. It sounds pretty scary for you to face surgery again. Make sure they give you all the anticoagulant medications afterward. I dread going through it all again too, but like you say, the pain is too much. You get to the point where you want the surgery. For one you just can't stand the dang pain anymore, and for two, you get to lay around in the comfy chair for weeks and get good pain meds. Sad but true. Then after the surgery you wonder what the hell you were thinking. Sometimes I think about days gone by when there weren't surgeries available to fix these horrible joints. What did people do? Were they just miserable and die? gah, I can't imagine. Drank alot I bet. Good luck to you with your new doc.

Vanyel "
