I need some help on some home remendies if anyone out there has got some. My knees hurt so bad especialy my right one. There are times they hurt so bad all I wont to do is cry. I have seen the doctor a couple of times but I can't keep going back because I have no insurance and alreading owe her 650 dollars. She put me on darvacet for the pain and told me to use it sparely because she wasn't going to subscribe anymore because she is afraid I will get hooked on them, so I only use them when I can't bear it anymore. They help to some degree but the pain is still insufferable. The worst time is at night when I am trying to sleep and I can't get into a position that is comfortable so I lay awake half the time rubbng icy hot on it. Please help.

Hi how are you ??
Fish oil helps with the pain and theirs other natural herbs that can help with the pain. Emu oil and cucumber cream also help the pain. Theirs a spary that helps out with pain for about an hour but even that helps out. Go to your local chemist and ask them as they will be able to recommed the right ones for you.

Have you tried over the counter anti inflammatories? like Ibuprofen or Alleve? If either of them was any help your doctor may be willing to prescribe a stronger anti inflammatory like celebrex or mobic - they are non narcotic and doctors are not as reluctant to prescribe them. You can try turmeric too, an herbal anti inflammatory. Fish Oil is supposed to help. Also try glucosamine/condroiton. I find ice very helpful for my joints. Some people prefer heat. Try either one and use whatever works best. It is horrible trying to sleep with pain. You could try some valerian root to help you sleep, an herbal that helps relax you. Try using pillows under your knees if you sleep on your back, or between your knees if you sleep on your side. Try some vitamin D if you don't take any already - it helps overall health and may give your body a boost in dealing with the arthritis. Good luck.

hi, i have arhritis too, plus torn ligamentss in my knees. when the pain is too bad, i take percocet 10mg. nothing else works. because the pain from my knees goes into my back. darvacet is just a little higher then an extra strength tylenal. i know your pain, you need something stronger. i am allowed to take 2 a day. i only take one, when the pain is unbearable, as percocet is a strong medicine, but it works. i also have a muscle relaxer, (flexier,) which dose nothing. if you have no insurance, could you go to your welfare office and get a medical card? all drugs are addicting after a while, but you need something stronger. i don't take my medicine everyday, only when i'm in pain. like when it is going to rain, or raining, i hurt so bad, i can hardly walk. thats when i take a perc. sometimes i break it in half and take a half of pill, good luck, i feel so bad for you. also i go to orthopedic doctor. i feel so bad, you have no insurance, i use to get real bad panic attacks, they got so bad, i had to go on ssi, and i got a medical card. now the panic attacks went away and i have anxiety and agorphobia. i don't have a home remedy for you, i wish i did. God Bless You. i hope you get medicine or a mirical like your pain goes away...wishful thinking.

Cold packs are extremely helpful for joint pain and so is a heating pad, also getting a pair of shoe inserts would help with the knee pain, you're probably not supporting your arches correctly, they really do help! If your shoes are over 6 months old then you should get a new pair and place the shoe inserts underneath the shoe lining.
I used Glucosamine Chondroitin for over 3 years, never worked for me, but what works for one doesn't work for another. Asper Cream is good for pain. As for Celebrex, I personally stay away from it, too many side effects, but that is your choice. Aleve, I take 2 every night just about, before I go to bed, they work for me. Darvacet is a joke to me, but then as I stated before what works for one may not work for another. hugs

Try taking a ginger supplement. Although, be careful, as most herbs can do the same things as prescription drugs, therefore they can interfere with other drugs and treatments. As ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, it can interact with, or intensitfy, Ibuprofen, naproxen, or other asprin-like (blood-thinning) drugs. Also, if you're sensitive to heartburn (GERDS), it may not be right for you.
I've taken a ginger supplement for almost a year now, and no flare-ups, until I miss a few doses.. LOL! In addition, I take a Calcium/magnesium/Vit.D supplement which helps relax the body. Wonderful at night, for added comfort. Make sure you watch the ingredients and dosaging. Some contain Zinc, or other added herbs, and minerals. I've had to tweak my regimen so I'm not taking too much of some vitamins, as i already take a multi every day. It sounds like work, but isn't your health worth it? Cayenne cream, (capsacin) is also wonderful for topical relief! Keep it chilled for even more soothing. Glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM don't work for every1 as they only halt the progression of the disease temporarily. There's a new thing on the market called 5-Loxin. It's said to be very promising to us sufferers since it helps rebuild lost tissues and cartilage. I've not tried it yet, but if I ever need to, it's good to know it's there :) Best wishes to you. I hope you find relief soon, love! Take care! ~C.C.

Hi,
Honestly, I was having every RA symptom there was including even hoarse voice and blurry vision........the pain made me cry many times a day, so I know that the stuff I take would definitely, and absolutely take away your knee pain completely. I am pain free except when I overuse joints or bump or bend one that shouldn't be...like my wrists for example. All of the suggestions here are great. Unfortunately those alone probably won't stop your knee pain as much as you'd like. They might though, so if you are already taking supplements, go for it! Give everything a few months because it takes time for things to work. But if you want to be what I'm on then there's two things. One is really cheap. I recommend trying it because you're probably on a budget. you can get it for as low as $10 a month. Low Dose Naltrexone. There's an LDN group on Daily Strength. Join it to meet other people taking this drug. There's a yahoo group too and you can find lots of people on youtube who take this. Look into it, you'll be surprised. The second one is fairly expensive. You can buy it online and I have been shocked that it's really controlled my inflammation. It's called Serracor-NK. I buy mine from www.biomediclabs.com It really does work. Of course, this is much cheaper than your doctor's visits. There are lots of articles and case studies on this site to read and decide if this is for you. I've heard Zyflamend is good. I haven't tried it but it has a lot of the things people mentioned and taking something that's a blend is nice and easy so I'd give it a try. I wish you luck and keep us posted! hugs, Sarah

I have and still use Colostrum,it builds the immune system as RA is a auto-immune disorder and 600 mg of naproxen three times a day on a bad day, once in the morning or bed as you need on a good day.
Colostrum does many things, cell repair and growth factors so not to worry I give to my pets and my grandkids. Made from milk is safe even for lactose intolerent.

I've tried a few different herbal teas over the years - nettle and ginger, fresh meadowsweet from the garden, even birch leaf tea if you don't mind the extreme bitterness. They're OK for the day to day ongoing pain but not much help for a bad flare-up.
Sometimes I'll also warm up a bit of olive oil and rub that into my feet - seens to help if I do that last thing at night before bed.
