It starts in my thumb and continues up my arm and to my shoulder..at it´s worst. Here in Sweden it has been found that many people have this problem because of the frequent texting we do on our cells. And I do alot actually.
So how do I alleviate the pain?Am thinking of using a bandage on my thumb to give it support..as I would my painful knee. Thankful for any help that I can get!!! Posted on 06/28/09, 11:06 pm |

My friend had problems with her hands and she found gentle excerises helped her out.
She found text messaging hard but slowly did it and her hands got stronger.

I have it in my ring finger of my right hand. Think it is from holding mymouse too tigt. I use Voltaran gell , a nsaid and a finger spint or a few hours a day for relief.

I found a wrist and hand support at my pharmacy and it really helps. It gives support into the palm too. And amazingly enough it helps my shoulder and arm pain too. I wear it now whenever I sit at the computer or use my cell alot. I do sms alot.
Joey..it supports my thumb too and keeps it warm.. Then Voltaren helps when everything gets to be too much.. :) Thank you for your replies..so much!

Hoppet,
It comes to mind that frequent texting could be a cause of overuse for the tendons/muscles of the digits you are using to text. This can cause tendonitis, or an inflammation of the tendon sheath. The only cure for this is to rest it. Splinting does help and it sounds like you've discovered that already. Ice and /or heat can help as well, and the anit inflammatories - everything you've been doing already. Sad to say, but the best thing you can do is cut down on the texting until it feels better. Good luck. Vanyel
