I just found out yesterday in a routine checkup, my doctor found it very noisy and not pumping properly in my carotid arteries.
He has ordered a Carotid Duplex for Monday, but I am a basket case. My mother died 28 years ago from blood clots and my sister has clots also. My MIL died 6 years ago from having Carotid Artery Surgery. I am also getting a blood test that is to see if the gene is heredity. I also have Multiple Sclerosis, thyroid problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and overweight, this was not want I wanted to hear. I have enough on my plate.....I am only 48. I have cried hysterically since yesterday. I just need some friends that understand what I am going through. Sue Posted on 03/12/09, 10:03 pm |

Hi Sue,
Like Lesa, my genes were set for this thing called arteriosclerosis. My grandmother had it, my father had it and then developed a clot in his carotid artery and passed away. I am 48, and was recently diagnosed with pre-arteriosclerosis. I only got the diagnosis after a heart attack last October. (A blood clot to the main vein of my heart.) It's a bummer. But, I was put on Plavix with a baby aspirin, high blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. And I have changed my diet: no dairy fat, no butter fat, no animal fat...lots of veggies, Omega 3 (fish) and grains. I feel a million times better...more energy, indeed. I was never one for a lot of junk food, but my genetic makeup predisposed me to arteriosclerosis. So, I had to take action. Oddly, only when I took a proactive role in my healing did my 'fear' take a back seat. Put yourself first and do what you need to do for Sue. Love yourself and investigate a better diet, a walking routine, etc. I also found I watched a lot of comedy movies, and did things I enjoyed, such as cooking...which took my mind to a better place other than dwelling on the diganosis. I wish you much health and happiness. Don't let this 'blip' in the timeline of your life wipe you out. Take action...even if it may be baby steps toward healing Sue. Sounds silly, but it helped me, get a pedicure, have your hair cut, get out in the sunshine and hang out with friends. Healing begins in one's mind. PS. If you have a neighbor who is in need, cook her dinner one night, or if you have a friend who is having a tough time, call them and just listen. It will make you feel like a million dollars. Be blessed. –AM

Did you have your visit with the doctor? What did he say? I went through with what you did so I understand the scary thoughts you are having.
