Was just diagnosed with vascular claudication in my right leg.
Dx was a relief actually, because it meant something was wrong and that I could do things to fix it. I have diabetes and MS too and thought this pain was my MS - this would mean that the pain was in my nerves and that it would be up to my brain and nerve endings to decide when the pain was going to start and stop. After almost 8 months of pain each time I waled anywhere, I was startiing to feel disabled and scared. Started Aqua Therapy about 2 weeks ago and it is working. Does anyone else have this? What do you do for treatment? Posted on 02/25/08, 12:02 pm |

Oh I was diagnosed with this back in October, I had to have stints placed into my left leg artery and right leg artery left clogged 95% right clogged 90% I thought I was having back problems for about 9 months till I finally went to a Neauololigist and he suggested a doppler test on my ankles to see if I had blockage. I did and went and had surgery. Now I am walking 2 to 3 miles a day with weights and bike riding. Feel much better now.

Yes, I also have vascular claudication.
I decided to do nothing and wait and see. I am the same since I was diagnosed two+ years ago. My walking distances are unpredictable. Sometimes I go a block and have to stop or sometimes I can go for a few blocks til I stop and rest. It is not unbearable, just annoying and it prevents me from traveling except door to door by car. I am glad that at least you have a diagnosis. I am so sorry that you have had such a bad time of it. There are options for you and I hope you and your Dr will find help soon. We are here for you when you need to talk or vent or? Keep in touch. Pat

I was diagnosed with 95 and 100% blockage in my legs. Glad to hear aqua therapy is working for you. I ended up with 2 very painful surgeries. Still not done. Keep your positive outlook. God bless you.

Diagnosed Dec 2007 when I could barely walk a block. Treatment? Trental, aspirin, changed statin to Lipitor (good results), lost 20lbs and began walking. I'm now up to 2+ miles 5 times per week with only moderate pain. Stop and it comes back.
Winter makes it hard to walk though and I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm having some minor angina at times when walking. Seems to happen if I miss a few days of walking and only last a short while.

I've had periferial arterial diease for years. I had a bi-fem arterial replacemant in 1997. I had the artery in my left leg replaced from the groin to the ankle and had partial replacement in my right leg. I had ulcers on both legs that became infected with mersa. I'm lucky to have both legs today. My Dr put me on plavix and cilo.stazol. Quit smoking if you smoke. I'm not a diabetic

I'm an insulin dependant diabetic. I also have gastroparesis and am on in center hemo-dialysis for kidney failure.
I thought i had back trouble but, it turned out to be intermittant claudication. I had stents put in and they collapsed so, they had to do fem-pop bypass on both legs. I quit smoking after 18 years and thank God, still have my legs. I try to walk on non-dialysis days. I now take coumadin due to clotting issues. God bless each of you.

oh its a special kind of pain when you have this. It was really hard for me and i lost one of my legs because of it. I now walk with an artificial leg and am doing just fine. Just knowing that there is a diagnosis instead of in my head helped me a lot. I also am on coumadin and plavix. My problem is that my protime always changes week by week so I have to be poked every week.
