When i had mine done...i was told..that the success rate of it was very high... .. mine, they believe, has healed the spots that were burned..and my heart has returned to a bad arrhythmia that it had before i had it done.
so i am wondering..if anyone else has had this done..and what was the success... ? They are talking about redoing.....i am not sure i want to do this....but not sure of what my other options would be.......

" I had my ablation for a-fib and a-flutter in January 08. So far I have been in NSR ever since. I was given a 75% success rate for the first ablation, higher for the second and possible 3rd. Before my ablation, my EP explained to me that I had a good chance of needing a second and maybe a 3rd ablation. So far I have only needed 1. Did your EP explain to you that you might need more than one ablation? I feel you should have another ablation. I know plenty of people who had to have a second one, and are doing great. I feel, you have come this far, why quit? Good Luck in your decision. Wishing you well, and wishing you enough... "

" I agree with Jan. I had mine about 6 weeks ago and am doing good. Dr. said that I should only need one...he said that mine was a text book case. I would have another one if I needed it. Take care and please let us know. "

" Thanks for replying..
mine was ..very complicated when it was done.. He said because i had them in different heart chambers. upper and lower...Then on top of that.. i had to be fully awake.. .When they gave me the meds to relax me , He couldn't get my heart to react. , So He had them stop the meds..and kept saying stuff like...ok think about crying babys.. !! things that might stress me ..it worked but...IT HURT very badly..... so i guess that is my big fear of having another....the pain....
i had never been told...., that i could need another one..... i had this done in May.... but it was a rush to get mine done..more because nothing else was working all the meds either made it worse, or didn't help... right now its not that bad .but seems to be getting worse as the days go by.....and i guess its not as life threading as was before.. " My ablation was done because I had failed all the meds, and I started having bouts of sustained V-Tach, which can be life theating.
I could not imagine being fully awake for my ablation. I took almost 8 hours, and I don't think I could have tolerated lying still, wide awake that long.
I surprised your doctor did not tell you that you might need more than 1 ablation. Like I said before, I met with several EP's, and everyone of them told me that I might have to have more than one.
Good Luck with your decision. Wishing you well, and wishing you enough... "

" The ablation procedure is not "oversold". Unfortunately, Mr Walter's family member had a horrible outcome. This is very rare. "
