I'm new to the group, I have only had my problem since february of this year. One minute I'm fine, the next my heart is pounding out of my chest. It is the scariest thing I have ever had to deal with. I am seriously afraid it's going to kill me if I don't get the implant, But at the same time. The quality of my life is not all that great. I have one more year and then my son will be out on his own, in fact he will be in another country. I have a great cardiologist and I know he will do what ever is in his power to save me. I'm just not sure that would be the best thing at this point. I would rather have quality than quantity any day. I know this must sound selfish and it is. It's just that other than my kids who will live on the other side of the plannet. I really have no one. I just can't go it alone anymore.

I can relate to what you are saying. My son left two years ago for the military we were very close more like best friends. I got my first ICD implanted eighteen years ago so I had a chance to watch him grow up. By the time he was eight I had a couple of shocks that pretty much saved my life, So the implant did it`s job. Sometimes when one door closes another door opens. Just before my son left for basic training I met my girlfriend. I was sure that the void in my heart was never going to be filled, Sure glad I was wrong.
Now I am on my fifth ICD eighteen years later and I am awaiting grandchildren to spoil. But like you I have been so low I had to look up to see the bottom, I do know how hard it is. You have to keep an open mind and a open heart. My life did not end because of my implant it had just begun and I refuse to go down without a fight. I wish you the best of luck and health.

Thank you so much for your story. It really does make me feel hopeful. Although I can't really forsee anything great happening here in the near future, I guess it doesn't mean that it won't. :)

I have had some really fast heartrates simply from climbing the stairs. It doesn't always happen, only when I am extremely stressed. My doc said I need to find ways to cope with the stressors in my life.

Have you talked to your Dr. about whether yuor a canidate for ablaytion surgery? My beats would go from nothing to 200 plus a min. on down.and some higher. they did ablation on me and it took care of the problem I still might have light break thru's of a slower type occasionaly but it is handled with med quite effectively. This will work on a variety of A-phib. upper electrical problems. hope this helps. the surgery is not a big deal they go in like the would for a stint thru the groin artery.
