The Propranolol seems to make me sick lately, but what is the big difference between these 2?

They are both Beta blockers right?

I heard that Atenolol helps anxiety too?

" I've never been on propranolol, however I was on atenolol. I don't think there is any difference between the two. They are both beta blockers. I stopped taking the atenolol because it made me to tired. I couldn't function while I was on this med. My EP switched me to sotalol which still made me tired but not as bad as the atenolol. "

" yes they are both beta blockers. actually, they both should help with anxiety, but each person will react or experience different effects from the same drug. if you feel like you are having issues with propranolol, then by all means talk to your doctor and try something different. also, you might try smaller dosages to see if that will help. but remember this, medications are supposed to help, not make you feel worse. if you feel worse, call the doctor, reduce the dosage or eliminate the meds in that order. " thanks so much, I read that one of the side effects of the Propranolol was depression, I am taking quite a mix of meds for different things, so I pray I can be able to eliminate what I really do not need.

I know I need to contact my doctor, was just wondering if anyone had weird ill feelings while on Prorpanolol...

...my hands and fingers are also bloated/swollen and my period just ended, drinking water, but this didn't happen when off the Proranolol. "

" there's some variations between beta-blockers. some of them are cardio(heart)-selective, some are water soluble and some are lipid soluble (which enters brain easier - produces nightmares...etc..). And so like all medicines, they share some common and some different side effects between own members. Maybe try different "groups" of beta-blocker, you should soon find one that suits you the best. Try for a week or two before you change another type as side effects normally subside after few days. "

" I was started on metoprolol, also a beta-blocker and oh my goodness, it made me so tired and fatigued that I couldn't get out of bed (I'm only 24 years old!!). I was switched to bisoprolol which did the same thing, so now I'm on propranolol. Like it was mentioned, each person responds differently to each drug, even though they are the same class of drug. The worst part about the metoprolol is that it made me severely depressed. It was scary and how instantaneous it was. I would take it at night then in the morning I was crying, upset, etc. I just couldn't tolerate it. "
