I had my follow up appointment at the pain clinic this week. After discussing that the treatment of injections of local anaesthetic at the base of the skull had little effect I was prescribed the medication gabapentin.
Does anyone have experience of this medication? Despite my reservation about any kinds of medication I'm going to try this one as the next option is surgery (and I don't think I can go through anymore that might not work.) I also discussed the impact of stress on my condition and was told that it could affect me because of my medical history. Posted on 10/02/09, 01:10 pm |

That is a good med but it is a weight gainer big time. If you dont want to gain weight I would ask your dr. to change it to somethign else.

Thank you Rozia, that's my decision made then. I have a history of eating disorder a lot of which stems from not being able to control pain. Given that I'm just starting to feel a bit more confident I don't think gaining weight will help.

I think that med is the same as Neurontin. I started on 100mg once a day for 3 days then 100mg twice a day for 3 days then 100mg three times a day for 3 days. I am now up to 300 mg 3 times a day. I intially thought it was working, now I don't think so. I do have some periods of the day where it does not hurt so bad, but then wow it hurts big time. I called nsg and told his nurse I did not think it was working and she said that nsg said to give it more time.

It's also a med that makes you pretty dopey, cognitively speaking. I did not find any relief from neurological pain on 900 mgs of it, but did feel very slow in my thinking. I got off of it. My husband had the same reaction.

My Dr put me on Lyrica (pregablin), which is a Fibro drug, but also treats neuropathic pain, I researched it to be a weight gainer also. I wonder if they are in the same drug family?
