I was in the hospital over the weekend because I was having left side facial numbness and just to make sure my doctor wanted me checked out to rule out a stroke or Bells Palsy. I knew when i was there that it was neither one. It was my Chiari. Well anyway I have problems looking up for any lenght of time because i will get dizzy or passout. What i didn't know is that when I put my head back it slows my heart rate down to an alarming slow rate. They had the heart monitor on me and my rate was about 54 beats per minute at rest. I wanted to see the monitor which was behind my head so I looked behind me to see it and my heart rate started slowing down. It got down to 40 beats a minute and the alarms started going off for the ER personnel to come in and check on me. As soon as i put my head back up it returned to 54 beats. I tried it again later just to see and it did lower again being a FF/Medic we always have to test things lol. Now i know why i get dizzy. Anyone else have this happen.

" I have had problems with this. My Neurosurgion said it was because so much of the spinal fluid is being pinched off. Which my understanding is that the spinal cord relates everything to and from the brain. If the spinal cord can not relate that, then the body does not know what to do. Not every one is the same. In 2006 I had to have my Chiari Surgery (lower base skull) to take make more room and less pinching. I was rapidly going paralyzed. I am better but understand that my symptoms have been so bad that I will deal with these for the rest of my life. I just wish I could get regular doctors to realize all my symptoms are from my Chiari. Pay attention to the numbness in your face and other extremities. It is not a good thing. "

" Thanks so much for responding to this I was begining to think I was the only one who had this. Somethimes when I lay down on my stomach with my head turned to the right and i wake up I can't move anything but my left arm it is very scary. The only way i can move is to have someone move my head or flip me over then i guess it takes pressure off a nerve and the feeling comes back and i can move again. "
