my 13yr old son needs a friend!

My 13yr old son had decompression surgery at 13mths. Over the years his specialist has added several diagnosis. He will end up having another surgery, or more, depending what the future holds. He is as strong as steel..so I thought. The kids at school give him a hard time because he "looks different". Along with the scar from his surgery, which runs from the middle of his head to just between his shoulder blades and is almost an inch wide. He has kyphoscoliosis which causes his head to permanently "hang" to the left. All he wants is someone who, as he says, understands him and how he feels. He has a facebook, email, and I wouldn't be against an occasional phone call as long as it puts a smile on his face! Anyone? Please...

" Hi there.
I am sorry to hear your son is feeling so down. It's not easy to deal with this chronic condition and to be different than your peers, especially in middle school!
I don't know if he would be interested in talking to me since I am female and am 18 years old. I just recently had the decompression surgery. Mine was not as severe as his. I have a scar that is from the middle of the back to my head to almost base of my neck. I also have a headache condition called Intercranial hypertension, too much fluid around the brain which puts pressure on the brain resulting in headaches. I have a VP shunt, which is a device that redirects the extra fluid to another part of my body.
I understand the "being different" part. I just barely graduated from high school and lost friends. I wasn't necessarily picked on, but everyone wanted to know my business or made comments that were
hurtful- they were clueless as to the fact that I had to deal with horrific pain day in and day out.
I would be more than happy to be a buddy, if he is really interested :) You should talk to him and ask him if he would be interested in talking to me. If not, I understand completely.
Would he be interested in joining this support group, that way he would have more than one person that may be able to relate? Or is it better if he has a one on one talk with someone who may be able to help?
The people on here are very kind and we try to help answer any questions that other members have, and or offer support to those who are having a hard time.
Best to you and your son!
Mallory "
