it is whom intervened on me. as he describes very simple minimal invasive intervention, (and it only requires overnight and discharged the next day,, this appealed to me as the other interventions where described as high risk surgery and i didnīt pay no where near the other quoteseg,$US 200 000) the results excelllent, i feel on top of the world. I can only offer my recommendation as i wish that someone could have guided me,the more questions and answers creates knowledge which inturn creates the right confident decision, made by the sufferer or their loved ones of course.

" Minimally invasive decompression surgery unfortunately has not had the best track record for LONG Term success. Many patients who have minimally invasive procedures later require a second decompression be done. =( That is why the best Chiari specialists do not perform this type of surgery. Saving money may be good when buying dishes and furniture, but it should not be a major factor in the decision for who your NSG will be. "

" My 15 yr old son also saw Dr. Royo Salvador in Barcelona, Spain and had surgery on 12/16/08 and he is now doing very well. Previously he had surgery in NYC for a crainectomy and spinal decompression and laminectomy which failed. We are grateful to Dr. Royo for his minimal, common sense approach and his life work on the realtionship between tethered cord and chiari. We are hoping that his approach will be approved in the US very soon so other's can benefit. In the meanwhile going overseas was a great experience for our family because our son is having positive results. We can only hope that everyone makes the right decision for themselves or for their child. "

" I have to disagree about less invasive surgery not lasting. Now, I admit that I've only had the surgery for several months, but I feel absolutely fantastic. My recovery time was less, and I don't have any of the lingering complications that I've read from some of the people in this group.

If you look at it like fixing your car. If you take it to the mechanic, and you very well know that all you need is an oil change, and the mechanic comes back and tells you, you need to replace your engine...would you do it? Don't fix things that aren't broke. My surgery cost over $60,000 (and thank goodness for insurance), but it wouldn't matter to me what the cost was...because I wasn't looking for a deal when it came to my brain. I was looking for the absolute best surgeon in the country and luckily he was only 3 hours away. He does the surgery endoscopically (sp?) which is a LOT less invasive than the big surgery, less complicated, fewer risks, etc. "
