Wed. my son went to see a psychiatrist that his primary care phsyician suggested to help with his ADHD...now the pshyciatrist isn't so sure my son is ADHD and has now diagnosed him as having social anxiety disorder as well as being depressed....Today I get an email from the school counselor stating that his English teacher forwarded a writing assignment to him that has them all concerned and would like to have a "group" meeting with myself and all my son's teachers....The email from the counselor doesn't give any details as to what about the assignment concerned them or anything..just left it very vague..so now I am stuck at home all weekend worrying about what they heck kind of counselor would communicate a serious concern via email without any type of explanation...at the end of the day on a freakin friday!!!!

I am at a loss..and have been all school year...even tho it has only been 9 weeks it has been so very stressful...assignments not getting done, son not wanting to go to school, never asking for help, no friends.....etc....this year for some reason has just been extra rough... we both cry trying to figure out his homework assignments because he can't seem to focus enough to take notes and now a days the teachers get the assignments off the internet and don't follow the books.... He is on Straterra right now but the shrink doubled the dose and said if no change after 2 weeks he would take him off of it and then we would start working on cognitive skills and meds for the depression.......
Right now I am in the guilt stage....I made him this way....he has a lot of problems..i.e paralyzed in his left hand.....super emotional.... touchy subject with his dad with whom I am divorced from....who was diagnosed in 2002 with brain cancer and although he is doing better than expected the 2 craniotomies left him with several mental and physical disablilities... we moved into our new home over 1 year ago and that has been rough on him...and so on and son on.......

" Not sure how to help you here, but please meet with teachers and counselors, get feedback, let them know that you are currently getting son diagnosed, and what your concerns are. Always include your gut feelings when interpreting Doctors diagnoses, they are often wrong, and are useless without your careful input. You and your son have a lot on your plates, keep anxiety to a minimum by not "nagging" about homework, grades, etc. Let the school staff get more involved. "
