Anxiety and stomach issues

Hi,
I was wondering if a lot of kids with anxiety have stomach issues? My daughter is now 8 and her stomachaches are getting worse, both the frequency and severity. She's on a laxative and fiber supplement and prevacid daily and nothing gets better. She just had some testing done yesterday so I am hoping some good news will come out of all that. She has had stomach problems for a year now. Every morning before school she starts her anxiety ritual about going and always ends up in the bathroom. I had to leave her for a weekend with my in-laws and the week prior I had her at the doctors twice and again when I returned. The pains were excruciating and she would turn pale. Tests were done for a parasite but came up negative. The day after I returned, her stomach was much better. I know I just have to wait and find out with the tests show, but I was just wondering if this was a common occurrence with anxious children. I feel like I am constantly dealing with anxiety and stomach problems. Any feedback is appreciated.

" My daughter is the SAME way! She has had chronic stomach trouble for a few years now and at times will even run low grade fevers; but regardless of blood work and internal scopes, nothing has ever been diagnosed. She was put on Prevacid as well, as well as suppliment for intestinal troubles but literally NOTHING helps; only the passing of time/and/or the upcoming dreaded event. "

" What finally got my daughter the help and therapy she needed, was that she was diagnosed with an ulcer due to anxiety at 5 yrs old. The Dr's eyes about popped out of her head when he told me the diagnosis. "

" With my DS we found Zoloft to calm him and take the "stomach symptoms away. He still has an occasional "My stomach hurts" when he is highly stressed but this is the only thing that has worked so far . He is 10 and had anxiety since birth. "

" I am in the same boat with my 11 yr. old boy. He is in the bathroom every a.m. before school. I have to physically pull him off the toilet to send him out to the van. He does the same before we leave the house to go anywhere. I am worried because ulcers and ulcerative colitis are in my family. I hope things work out for your child. I'm searching for a solution of my own. "

" I took my eight year old to childrens mercy hospital for stomach pains and constipation. They put her on a stool softner and suggested I look into anxiety disorder. Luckily I had already made an appointment with the psychiatrist. She was put on zoloft almost two years ago for anxiety disorder and stopped taking the stool softner after about a month of zoloft. The stomach aches are far and few in between and no more constipation. "

" I can remember as a child that I used to have stomach aches every single day. My Mom took me to the doctor on several occassions and they put me on special diets and all sorts of things but could never find anything wrong. This was back in the 70's and my Mom had no idea what was going on with me but I now know it was clearly anxiety. Anxiety can manifest itself in so many ways. Stomach issues are very common. "

" It is very common for children who have been molested to have psychosomatic complaints, such as frequent stomach aches and head aches. This may be partly why doctors do not find anything wrong with the child. However, I would look at all possibilities before jumping to any conclusions and do more research on the topic. "
