This was the book that turned me on to the world of CBT. My boyfriend gave it to me and suggested I do the exercise called the TEA form in it everyday. He said he heard about it at a support group he was going to and that it could teach me how to control my anxiety and help me eliminate the thinking errors I was making that caused my anxiety, health anxiety and panic attacks. In a matter of months I was feeling better and several months later I was able to wean off my meds and have not looked back. What was really cool about this book was that it was written by a guy (Sam Obitz) who struggled with anxiety and depression for most of his life before finding the help he longed for with CBT. It's also a short book so it is not too daunting and very encouraging in its tone.

" I just looked on the web site listed above and the price for the book is $12.95. So you should be able to get it at a local book store for that price or less. "

" My boyfriend bought my copy from the website I listed in my original post www.tao3.com and they sent it out in first class mail and I got it a few days after he ordered it for me and I think it was $16 and that included shipping. I love the book and recommend but $47.00 is ridiculous!!! "

" Jack that's cool that you were in a group. Did that make learning CBT stuff easier? I have been doing it on my own and having really good success with the TEA forms but wonder if there is anything I am missing? thanks. "

" Ronsgirl, I basically just do the TEA forms now but the putting things back into perspective exercise and the counter exercise helped me come up with more and deeper thoughts to counter so you may want to give them a try too.
Best part of the group experience was seeing everyone grow together even if we were all going at our own pace. It helped give me confidence to see others doing well at those times I was struggling which probably made it easier to stick with the TEA forms when I was having doubts about them working for me. I'm so glad I stuck with it and had others help to motivate me. Whether you are in a group or not you still have to do the work yourself to get better in the long run. "

" Thanks for getting back to me Jack. Which one of the counter exercises do you recommend? I'm gonna start doing more of the putting things back in perspective exercise again and see if that accelerates the progress I am making. Thanks gain :) "

" Hi Jack I never heard back on the counter so I am writing again and hoping for your advice. I have been doing the putting things back in perspective exercise and it has helped me get better thoughts to counter in my TEA forms. I hope you are well and thanks in advance for your advice on the counter exercise. "

" Ronsgirl, I have not signed on here in ages and was not ignoring your question. I only use the counter exercise now when I find myself feeling a little down to click off all the things I am doing so I can get back to focusing on the positives in my life rather than dwelling on the negatives. However, the other method where you click off negative thoughts is great in helping you come up with thoughts to counter in a TEA form. I'll try to check in more often and hope this helps you :) "
