Depression and anxiety

Do they go hand in hand? I've never heard that, but it looks to be that way from what I've read here. I've been depressed most of my life, but never had problems with anxiety 'till now, and I'm 37. I just had a really stressful job for a while, and now I lost it. Can anxiety wait to be triggered?

hey there...what you're describing would cause even the most level-headed person a lot of anxiety. if you haven't had a problem with it until now, i would say the recent bad experience with the job is trigger enough.

I feel that i have always had some anxiety throughout my life. However my normal everyday anxiety became extreme once my mom came to live with my family. She was here for only 3 months last fall and i was a wreck the entire time. I realized then that I had a major anxiety problem and now I now I am finally trying to work it out. I understand the stress you have, My husband has been unemployed since January and we just had a baby.
I am also drepressed and it is hard for my doctors to decide if the anxiety causes the depression or if its the depression worsening the anxiety. It's kind of like the chicken and the egg question. I do believe depression and anxiety go hand in hand though. And I think that the shock of losing a job would trigger anxiety in anyone and is probably making your depression seem worse. It is stressful to wonder how the bills will get paid and to think how will we eat. Just remember we can only do what we can do and that you are not alone! Hugs-

Good to know. I mean I know this is not normal anxiety that a normal person would feel about being laid off. My husband makes enough to pay all the bills. But I'm paranoid I'm not going to get unemployment. I'm paranoid I'm going to get unemployment but then be thrown in jail. No reason, I've been perfectly honest. I'm afraid driving down the street. I'm afraid my husband's going to leave me. I'd almost take depression over anxiety!

i worry about those types of things as well. seriously though why would u be thrown in jail? do you have a record or do you have some sort of impulse to go out and break the law? otherwise these things are irrational.
i have irrational thoughts as well about dieing and being homeless. its ridiculous. anxiety is always about that, the ultimate worst thing that could ever happen, its like worrying about a plane falling on yr head from the sky, when really when do things like ever happen?

I hear ya. No criminal record, no impulse to break the law, just afraid I'm going to say something wrong on my claim and they'll be like she's looking to rip us off!!! Losing my job has shattered my self-esteem. It's like I'm not capable of doing anything anymore. I'm surprised I still know how to type LOL

Dont be hard on yourself. Most anxiety is unrealistic thinking. When your in that anxiety mode you cannot think "real". So thoughts like going to jail come into the picture.
