I've been taking Xanax (used to be 3 pills a day, 25.mg each, down to 2 and half pills now) since June and 10mg of Lexapro since August for severe anxiety and mild depression. I had some side effects from the Xanax - withdrawal symptoms if I am even 15 minutes late in taking my next dose. But my real concern is what I have been feeling since I started Lexapro. I get the shakes in my hands and legs, I frequently wake up around 3 or 4am and can't go back to sleep for about an hour, headaches, my short term memory is shot (I could be in the middle of a conversation and totally forget what I was talking about), I experience alot of dizziness and sometimes I feel foggy. Don't get me wrong, Lexapro has worked wonders for me. Before I started taking taking it, the Xanax had stopped working for me, my anxiety was spiraling out of control and I was depressed and crying all the time.
I tried Effexor and had a horrible, horrible reaction to it. Once I got on Lexapro, It worked very quickly and I felt calmer, more relaxed and able to function better. I still feel it's a good idea to be on it but I'm not crazy about the side effects. I have been back to work after a 2 month leave of absence and feel like I am not working at full capacity. I feel like me but not me. Does that make any sense? I am slowly weaning off the Xanax, can't wait to get that out of my system. Could these symptoms be a result of the Xanax or the Lexapro or both? The reason I say the Lexapro is because I started feeling all of these things a little over a month after getting on it. Please let me know if you have any advice. Appreciate it! I am having the same types of side effects. I just can not stay asleep at night. I am exhausted all day long and yawn non stop. This is really no way to live. I have been on Lexapro for about 3 years. My Dr. wants me to wean off of it extremely slowly, but I am nervous since any change up or down in medications usually shocks my system. I live with what feels an outerbody experience. My Dr. calls it derealization. My body temp seems to always be off and I have a complete inability to concentrate or focus at work. I also get very stir crazy. I am also light and sound sensitive. I am using ativan to get me through this rough patch, but in b/w doses I usually feel worse. It will take me approx 6 months to taper on the program that my dr setup and I am beyond nervous to start. Does anyone think that life will return to normal once these drugs are removed from my system?

I found a lot of the drugs to either make my symptoms worse or I was completely zombiefied (also due to the severe mental state I was in). I hated them and I don't use anything but ativan now and only as needed. I've pretty much had to deal with all my illnesses cold turkey. I did find prozac was one that helped me but I can't take it due to other side effects such as my stomach ulcer and excessive uterin bleeding. It was to bad too, becasue the prozac actually did help me. Even though I still had the outerbody or derealization feelings the whole time taking it. Today, I'm looking more into home remedies and using those types of practices rather than depending on drug industry which isn't working for me anyways.
