Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Does anyone here suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder? 13 years ago, I was diagnosed with panic disorder. I am on paxil for that. I have had to increase my meds through the years. Lately...about 3 weeks ago I was offered a new job where I work. My anxiety was off the charts since then. That was my trigger for whatever reason. Even with the paxil, I could not calm my thoughts, my anxiety, my stomach or anything. All I did was cry. My doctor prescribed Klonopin for me a few days ago and I have been taking that which has been wonderful. I just want to know if there is a cure for this Generalized Anxiety. Will I be able to function again without the klonopin? I was a mess...had suicidal thoughts..although I would never do anything. It was bad. I haven't felt that desperate in so long and that is what still weighs on my mind. I wake up in the morning so anxious...I guess because I am subconciously "checking" to see if "it" is there..the anxiety..so of course it is..and then the depression starts. Ugh. It's a vicious cycle. Just wondering if you guys have been through this.
By the way..how are YOU today? Posted on 07/03/09, 07:07 pm |

Wow, I know what you are going through. I am fine today but when something major happens, I go through that anxiety cycle again. I hate it.
I think you are projecting into the future about your new position and perhaps feeling some amount of fear. That is normal. You will do just fine.

Taking the Klonopin is fine for now - don't worry about "curing" yourself right now. Stay in today, and in the morning just try to think positive about this new job. Your medication will help you now, so don't think about a cure. You don't want to feel desperate again. How is the new job ? Have you started yet ? I understand your anxiety, and I think it's almost normal for someone in your position to feel like you do. Try not to even check if it is there - just take your medication and do the best you can. That is all we can do, right ? Take good care and feel better !

i also suffer from anxiety and depression. i have been on several meds trying to find the right one for me. they will work for a while and then they stop. the times they have stopped has been when i have had something bad happen in my life. i go to counseling and it helps me a lot. i also take my meds too. i am learning and trying to think positive. it does help but i also know it is hard to do. there are a lot of good people here in this group that can help if you need someone to talk with. for me it helps to know that there are others who suffer from this too and i can talk and tell them what i am feeling and they understand. dont know if you have ever tried to talk with someone who has never experienced anxiety or depression but they will not understand and some may even tell you to get a grip. try not to beat yourself up over this and maybe even try some deep breathing exercises. it works for me and lessens my attacks. anyway good luck and i am here if you ever need to talk.

Thanks all. I am trying to just go with the flow..well not really. I am so upset that this came back with such a vengeance. I am working with a counselor...and will pray really really hard for God to show me the way.
Thank you. Please be in touch. And know that I am feeling for you too.

omg yes. I have Major Anxiety. Xanax helps tremendously.
If I dwell too much on anxiety this will bring on a full on major anxiety attack. There is no cure. But you learn how to deal with 'it' by meds and breathing and staying away from 'triggers.' Some anxiety is good for us and that's why I say there is 'no cure'. It is natural to feel anxiety when starting a new job, returning to college, speaking in public, or doing things for the first time. As the others say, try to think good thoughts about your new position and tell your bad thoughts to 'go away.'
