I think some members have tried this. I've had several sessions
so far. Sometimes between sessions I have vivid dreams and feelings. Sometimes I feel more anxious. I don't know if its working. I know some people experience relief from the trauma but I have not felt that. When the therapist takes me thru a trigger and we do the bilateral vibration supposedly thoughts and feelings will stream thru but often times its just blank, I don't see anything and no thoughts come up. Have any of you experienced this. Is it still working on the non verbal level. Posted on 07/03/09, 10:07 am |

EMDR is a therapy designed for help releasing trauma.Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy that was developed to resolve symptoms resulting from disturbing and unresolved life experiences. It uses a structured approach to address past, present, and future aspects of disturbing memories. The approach was developed by Francine Shapiro to resolve the development of trauma-related disorders as resulting from exposure to a traumatic or distressing event. Some therepist use tapping, some use alternating vibration. It helps the brain process the trauma and release it so that your not stuck in it
continually. I have read other posts relating to members on this site who have used this type of therapy.

I had 8 sessions of that once (since i've done everything there is to do). It didn't help me at all, but the one thing i found interesting was that memories of my mother came up constantly and i was able to just talk on and on about her. It really surprised me since i never remember anything. None of them were repressed, just stuff i hadn't thought about in years. I stopped going because i didn't see the point in talking about those things. I know what happened, i know how i feel about it, and i know my mother still smothers me into not having my own life. I hope you have better luck with it than i did. Best wishes.

I went through EMDR and yes, I had deep, deep feelings that I cannot express.
This is a powerful tool. I have PTSD and I have a 'delayed reaction' to powerful thoughts and stuff that is said 'out of the blue' to deliberately hurt me, in the past and even now. Sometimes I remember days, weeks, months or years after the EMDR sessions. I would go through it again because it exposes us to the reality of the horror's we went through. I am on the brink of what I believe is near recovery. I have worked very hard to come so far.

So are you saying that during the EMDR sessions it seems
like nothing comes up.for you At first it seemed like it was maybe effective as I could visualize in the session and see different scenes and changes but now I feel like maybe I've reached stalemate and can[t see anything unfolding. I have felt more anxiety though and that does not feel good She always asks me at the end of the session "what do you think you learned today" and sometimes I feel like, well, I don't know.
