How many of you are going to see a counselor and how many of you feel it is working? Because right now I am feeling like that is my only hope, everything I am doing is not working. I heard CBT is the best. Let me know what you think. thanks!

" I am in therapy right now and it does help.Years ago when I was having my anxiety and panic attacks, therapy saved my life and that was without any meds. I also am reading a lot of self help books as well. I n fact I went to the library and took out 4. Reading those books also gives you tools to help you deal with situations. Today I went out to some stores and had panic attacks but I learned through reading how to deal with it and I survived. Being able to accomplish being in the stores and having that bad feeling pass felt so good. Try reading and keep me in formed. Good Luck!!! "

" I have been in therapy for years. It does help. And CBT is a major part of it. I am also doing something called EFT technique...emotional freedom technique...it is a "tapping" thing...you can look it up online and learn it on your own. I have a practitioner who is working with me. It's very different and it can be emotional, but if it helps me it will be worth it.

" Therapy is wonderful if you can express yourself and be honest. When I first started I didn't want to talk about the things that were really bothering me! I was very skeptical! But once I got comfortable with the counselor it was easy to open up and I am finally figuring out where all of this is coming from and how to deal with it better! I would say give it a try! You will more than likely be very happy you did! Take care "

" ? What is CBT? I haven't been succesfull with counceling but maybe cuz they were more interested in giving me medications instead of listening to me. Anybody with any advice on the best direction to good therapy would really be appreciated. I want to give it a try... "

" CBT is cognitive behavioral therapy. They try to help you irrationalize your irrational thoughts and stop the automatic responses that lead to panic and anxiety. I did it for several months and it definitely helped my panic. My anxiety persisted and my doctor wants me to do more CBT. Since I'm moving, I'm not starting right away, but would like to pick it up again once I'm settled in. There are lots of books that can help you with CBT, too, though that's not as good as finding a therapist you like, it's something. I use them to help remind me of things I learned in therapy. "

" I've been going to therapy for about 10 years now and it saved my life. A good therapist can make all the difference. One thing you have to remember is that it is not an overnight fix. I will take time but it is well worth it. "
