Valium

I just took my first Valium about four hours ago, after spending four weeks coming off of xanax. I don't feel any better at all. It feels like I didn't even take anything. The dosage my doc gave me is 2mg. Do any of you out there who take or took Valium know if that is a high dose or a low one, or what? All I know is I might as well have taken a sugar pill for all the good it did me.

" I have tried seriously every anti-anxiety med there is except for MAOI's, which I don't think they even prescribe anymore. Xanax has worked for me for the past few years, but now I have built up a tolerance to it. The only thing I have not tried for severe anxiety is Lithium. And nobody really has anything good to say about that one, either. Unless they come up with something new soon, I guess I'm stuck with the xanax. Thanks all for your comments. "

" I tried valium briefly (as needed sort of thing) but never really found it helped my either. (and I think 2mg. is about as low as you can get) I tried Ativan--which I hear is good for Panic attacks--quick acting--but doesn't stay in system very long. My Dr. thinks I was having "rebound" anxiety from it after a few hours. So now we are trying Klonopin--it is suppose to stay in system longer. I'm only on .25/day--seems pretty good so far--but wonder if I need that dose morning & night--to keep it at a constant level in the system. My psy. dr. also wants me to start Cymbalta--and then cross taper the two---hoping to go off the Klonopin & pray the Cymbalta is enough for the anxiety. :)
I would contact your Dr. & explain--I'm sure they will give you the best advice, based on the your history.
good luck "

" Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I've already tried all the other meds you all have recommended, and none have worked for me. Some of the ones I've tried that are not listed here have even made me have severe allergic reactions (i.e. throat swelled up and couldn't breathe) I have probably tried about 20 different meds over the past few years, and I really had high hopes for the valium, since it was kind of a last ditch effort. Oh well. My new therapist is really good, so maybe I can just stay on the xanax and keep up with my weekly therapy and hope I get better with that plan. "

" I'm on a combination of MAOI's, Lithium and Seroquel. Only been on it for 1mth but I have noticed that I'm not as aggressive and the frequency of my attacks seems to be less.

I don't think Seroquel is as addictive as Vallium (which they don't like to prescribe here in New Zealand). I was previously on Immovane but that left a horrible metallic taste in my mouth no matter how much I brushed my teeth.

You can google Seroquel and get the info on it. "
