" I take .5 mg when I feel my anxiety come on really strong. It helps within a half hour and calms me down. I haven't noticed any side effects, at first it made me pretty sleepy but now it just calms my anxiety. I only take it when I need it. I think it's only meant to be taken for a short period of time (few months) then your doctor can probably help you come off of it, by lowering your dosage and weening you off it so you don't just stop taking it and experience withdrawals. " I was worried about becoming addicted too but it really helps with my anxiety for now. I'm also going to counseling where my counselor taught me breathing techniques and a deep relaxation technique that seems to help a lot too. I'm sure if you keep your dosage low, you won't have a problem coming off the drug. "

" Hi Chris,
I was perscribed Ativan by my doc for anxiety back in November. I was suposed to take 1/2 of a 0.5 mg tablet twice a day for about two weeks. I took it for three days as doctor said to and it did work wonders. It calmed me down and I did feel some relief but after reading all the warnings and so forth I too become afraid I would get addicted so I took myself off of it. Stopped cold turkey worst thing I got was a headache and a little nervous but other wise I was fine after a day or so. Since then I only take it when I absolutly feel like I need it. It still calms me down and agian at the end of the day if I dont take the second dose I get a mild headache but that all goes away after a goon night sleep and the next day I feel fine. Dont be afraid to take it because it does work and with short term use you should be fine. "

" Thank you for both your inputs and experiences i think i will just use lorazepam when i feel anxiety is at a high, and just take it as and when. I am concerned about being addicted as i found myself having taken zopiclone repeatedly for several months, and don't want to get addicted to any other meds:) "

" Ive been on 1 mg of Ativan for about 2 1/2 years. Its worked wonders for me. Levelled me out alot. I STILl have to work on other things like cognitive behavior stuff, deep breathing, and spiritual readings, positive affirmations etc. BUT without my med I was panicked and anxious most of the time.

My doc plus many pharmacists Ive spoken with all say that 1 mg is a very small dosage of Ativan. for ME it works very well. "
