I think I'm finally going to try the lexapro, just start at half a 10mg pill. I've been on it before, off for four years. It just stopped working. I'm so scared to take it, but I just can't handle this anxiety anymore. And the pain from the fibromyalgia/hypothyroid, whatever is causing it is freaking me out. Almost went to the hospital tonight for pain on my left side in my ribs. Called the doctor who I just saw yesterday, she said to take some ibuprofen and go to the er if the pain became unbearable, but she feels I was going to be ok. Just tired of having to go through this. It's almost 4am and I haven't been to sleep. I hope Lexapro is the best thing for extreme anxiety and panic attacks, I have been on many different kinds of antidepressants, currently on xanax, 1.25mg per day, not working anymore. Any suggestions welcome.

There are many variations to the lexapro. Hubby has been on a couple and I usually have to tell him when it's time to change. Doc switches him and he's good for a couple of years. Maybe that would work.

what kind of variations are there to Lexapro. I thought there was just Lexapro and that's it. Is there Lexapro extended release or something like that? I've never heard of that so just curious. I called my doctor's office this morning and left them a message to see if I could get an appointment today, but I know they're only open early morning and may not have any left. :(

Hi Renee, I can't speak for the other post but I imagine what she means is that since Lexapro is an SSRI there are many other SSRI's to try if the Lexapro doesn't work for you. I have read alot of your posts, and I do think of you go see your doctor again today (not sure if you got an appointment or not) she is just going to tell you what she has told you before - that you should start the Lexapro.
You seem like you are really suffering with a lot of anxiety and worry about your health issues. I was the same way and Zoloft really worked for me quite well. I am not on it right now but it did help so I would hope that you would benefit from the Lexapro especially if you have in the past. I hope you feel better soon. Josie

Have you tried Remeron? It's not an SSRI, I can't remember what kind of drug it's called but it's very good for anxiety. It's an older antidepressant. The worst side effects are sedation (in the first few weeks) and weight gain. You can really put on some pounds with it. That's why I'm going to be looking for another one ... like you, I want to find one that works for anxiety.

I have not tried Remeron. I think the doctors are saying Lexapro because it's something I've been on before. I've also been on prozac, celexa, effexor...they all work, but eventually stop. I have such terrible anxiety, I literally feel sick to my stomach when I have to drive by a bridge. I can't drive on the interstate so I have to go backroads, but I freak out if I'm going somewhere new and think I might have to go on an overpass, or even up a hill. And I mean freak out as in terrified, I will literally stop in the middle of the road. What do you think is the best medication for anxiety that is that severe? I don't need anything that will make me gain weight.

well, I really think they would prescribe anything I talked about, because they really want me to take medication. I was just wondering if anybody had such severe anxiety as mine, so they can't live a normal life....and if so, what medication worked for them.

We all have a different brain chemistry, and those of us w/ fibro have an esp. hard time in general finding the "right one"- and then needing to change often when we become tolerant to it. Frustrating, I know!
Personally, after much of this I have found that Pristiq150mg works best for my depression. Last yr. I tried Effexor, since it is in same RX family and much cheaper- nowhere near the same help! Also, right now I've been taking a regular Klonapin .5mg 2x a day if needed for anxiety. It is just a better, longer-lasting pill than Xanax. And my clinic offers IV's. They can help some patients fot all sorts of things. Might be worth looking into. Non-medically, cranial sacral, with a good practitioner is awesome! It can really help "quiet" my mind for a bit and help my body, at the same time. This is what I am really the most excited about right now, as there are no side effects etc. Hope this gives a few new ideas. Good luck! "Hear Me say, 'Peace, be still,' to your restless heart."
