Hi,
I had my appointment with my family doctor today. He talked about the thyroid ultrasound and told me it was nothing to get worried about. He said that the blood results from the tests at the end of June had my TSH in the normal range, so he said my thyroid is fluctuating a bit. He said he feels that I do have hashimoto's He explained what that is to me, and just said probably when I'm about 50 (in 9 years) I will have to start taking a thyroid replacement, because the antibodies are destroying my thyroid. He said it's just the beginning stages and not to worry. He knows I have an appointment with the ent to go over the results on Wednesday He said he is confident about prescribing medication for me when I need it, and we will get new blood work in four months.

He did say I should start taking the Lexapro he prescribed because I am seriously lacking serotonin.

Any thoughts?

" I don't know about the connection but I can say I was taking lexapro for a short time. Felt 'normal' wonderful!! Unfortunately an usual side effect is sweating and that got to me.

But try it, may be great for you. "

" Normal ranges aren't right for eveyone. I'd ask about how close to the bottom of the range your T3 and T4 numbers are. It may be appropriate to start a thyroid med now, with great benefits. "

" My Free T3 is 2.7 There is a range listed of 2.1 -- 4.4

My Free T4 is 0.8 There is a range listed of 0.6 -- 2.7 "

" I guess I'd ask about trying some T3 as a trial (it's a pill). It's just that it's a simple thing that can make a big difference. Docs are often blind to numbers that are not flagged. At least be informed and expect explainations, especially from specialists. Your family doc sounds nice...that counts for alot. It's all sort of a balancing act...be intelligent, but, you pay them to worry for you...if you've got one you like, let them. Good Luck! Oh, Lexapro can be a bitch to start, but it saved me. I'd start with 5mg and then increase to 10mg. Be determined to find out if they work for you...you'll know at 8 weeks, with more gains until about 12 weeks. "
