Hi has anyone been given diazepam as a way of controlling anxiety?

My doc has given it to me in 2mg doses just wondered if anyone had used it for this reason and did it work?

" yes diazempam(valium)
I have used this in the past for my anxiety, the doctors in hospital started me on it.
I started on10mg then down to 5mg x3 a day, it worked very well on my anxiety.
Some people are more sensative to it so 2mg sounds a good dose.
Good Luck And Let Me Know How it works for you.

" I've used it, and it was very helpful. It's very easy to want to abuse it though, so stay strong and use it for the right reasons.

Best of luck "

" I am on xanax 1 mg up to 3 per day. My shrink will not give me a script for valium. I think i need to alternate xanax and valium, thus preventing increased tolerance.

My shrink is in the dark ages. GP won't give me even xanax.

What to do what to do. I wish I could go to a GP and get a Rx for valium. But i don't know who to go to. "

" Yes - I am on Diazepam daily and it really takes the edge off of things. You do have to be careful - it is very addictive, so make sure to follow dosing instructions. It helps me to function every day. I am definately pro meds here. If I did not have it, I would lose it totally. It should really help your anxiety a lot. "

" i have used diazepam for three years and it really helps when you are having bad periods of anxiety, i know this is a highly addictive drug but i only ever used it if i felt things were really bad, i can go months without having to take one, if i was having a really bad period the most i have ever had to take is 2mg 3 or 4 times a day
remember this will nto cure your anxiety - you need to start looking at ways that you can do this - but it will help control bad days and for me it was a positive x hope your doing good today x "

" 2mg is a low dose for Valium. But it's probably a wise dose to start with, especially if you're a bit hesitant about it or have never tried a benzo before.

I tried valium one time, to see if it would be better for me than xanax or klonopin. Much to my surprise as well as disppointment (I was expecting it to be pretty potent), it only had a mild affect. My dose was 10mg. I have stubborn anxiety and my body is used to being on different benzos, so starting out on a lower dose probably wouldn't have been to my advantage.

Yes, it did help with the anxiety and I found it especially useful for sleeping, however it doesn't have that same oomph that xanax has. I would describe the feeling of being on valium as mildly pleasant, but not very useful for for calming down an anxiety attack.

For now, for myself, I'm sticking with xanax or klonopin to help me manage my never ending anxiety. However, should the day come when aliens from outer space take all the xanax and klonopin (God forbid) valium will become my new best buddy.

Keep smiling :) Gotta love those benzos :) "
