Does any ones anxiety seem to peak or be at its worse when sick. I have started getting the flu for the last few days and my anxiety has returned ten fold. I have had a very dry mouth for around a week and have been drinking lots of water. My mind starts to think what could be wrong, maybe diabetes. Then start thinking about how to treat that when i havent even been diagnosed for god sake. I am really tired and feel like i want to take small naps throughout the day when normally I am so busy enjoying house work and my children. I also have a wonderful husband who is so supportive and helps me out so much. Does anyone think i should get this dry mouth problem looked at by the doctor or am i just being silly. (PS - Never had it before)

Trakka, first of all I hope your flu gets better soon! It's just hit my house today... UGH. Did you start a new medication or change your medication? That can definitely give you dry mouth! The dry mouth also might be because of the flu... hang in there!

Are you taking any meds for the flu. if it has a antihistimine in it, it could be drying you out. Or if your congested and your breathing alot through your mouth, it can cause your mouth to dry out. I think most people are a little freaked this flu season with all the hype about h1n1, the best thing you can do is just take care of yourself. Rest, drink alot of fluids, and rest some more. Stress breaks down the immune system and during this flu season we all need our immune systems strong. Feel better, Marge

Absolutely worse when I am sick. Like 10-fold. My mind also thinks what can be wrong, pneomonia, congestive heart failure, H1N1, tumors etc. It is the way an anxious mind fires.
Can I ask you if Lexapro helped when you were on it?

My anxiety is worse when I am sick also! Which is right now. I have had bronchitis for the past few weeks so since I have felt so bad I start thinking there is something worse wrong when there really isnt. I have also had a very dry mouth and it seems no matter how much water I drink it doesnt go away. But then I sit and think about when I have been sick before and it was the same! You'll be fine. Get well soon!

Actually, the opposite happens to me. When I am sick my anxiety goes down.
For me, it has to do with other people's expectations. If I say, hey, I'm sick. Everyone backs off. I don't get the external pressure. Instead of being expected to be on top of things and take care of everyone and everything, I'm expected to sit in bed and do nothing. Then again, I only get sick twice a year for 24 hours...so it's a nice unexpected vacation. Yeah, I know, I'm weird. Feel better! Hearts, Owl

I just got over the flu, and my anxiety went up too. I think one major reason for that is the lack of an ability to breath very well. When I'm sick I get so stuffed up that I can't breath very well at all. This natural makes the anxiety escalate. So I think that it's natural for your anxiety to go up during this time. I hope that was a little helpful. I hope you recover soon.
