anxiety and depression?

years ago i suffered from anxiety attacks and after a long time in talk therapy i overcame it and since then have found ways to cope. (doc was against meds)

i have always been depressed probably since birth but the docs were more worried abount me over coming the attacks and i was too.

recently i have been feeling panicky and on the verge of an attack...as much as i hate the thought of meds and dont have time for therapy i was wondering is there a med. that treats both? i have tried anti anxiety meds and they turn me in to a zombie and i have tried anti deppresatns that make me feel loopy and panicky. I by no means have to much energy its like all my anxiety is all in my head and my body fights it with being lazy.

i know things are different for everyone but hoping someone her has the same problem? wondering what meds worked for you? i up til this point have also been anti meds but to the point of thinking i will try.

" All the meds i've tried are used to treat both... zoloft, paxil, celexa. I've found that not using any meds is best for me... but i keep ativan on hand for my anxiety if it gets completely out of control. If you are more worried about your depression i would just try a very minor dose of whatever had the least side effects that you were on previously. "

" Xanax is fast-acting and stays in your system for shorter periods of time than Ativan. I believe side effects may be drowsiness with the first few doses but when I only took half mg instead of 1 mg when I needed, I didn't feel drowsy or like a zombie. "

" depression and anxiety, although they do not seem like it, are normal conditions of a human being that is "missing something." they are warning signals. they are trying to get you to open your eyes to reality so that you can see clearly as to how best to navigate in your decision making.

taking drugs to suppress a warning signal should be a person's last option. there are tons of much better options.

my guess is that you are run down and don't have enough good things in your life to counteract the things that are draining your energy.

to effectively deal with stress, those things that drain us; we each have to be smart and put more good things into our lives daily so that we do not get overly depleted.

be smart. put diet, exercise, sunshine, good people, fun things, and good habits into your life and you will see your depression and anxiety slowly dissipate until they are gone completely.

your life can be fantastic if you let it. "

" Lorazapam has been doing me good. My anxiety has lessened but i'm not under too much stress right now so i believe that helps a ton. Prob. could do with something more for the depression but everything my dr. gives me to try gives me SEVERE headaches that really are not worth it. "

" Wellbutrin and Lexapro were what I started with to combat both. "

" When I go to work I take a half of a half of xanax.Yes, and I take it every morning. When I know that I am going to be home, I don't take it. I have a problem with dizzyness and without this, I couldn't function. I have tried the anti's and they made me feel too weird. They also gave me a very panic feeling.
I hated taking those things. I don't like anything that is going to alter my brain. I guess it's been two years since I started taking the xanax. I really don't want to take anything but if I want to function, I have no other choice. Just try to keep the dosage as low as possible. I have tapered off in a weeks time and then needed it again. Good Luck and remember you are not alone. Susie "

" I have anxiety and depression. I understand what you mean when you say your anxiety makes you lazy. That is something that I am trying to deal with now.

Welbutrin worked for me. It made things seem a whole lot more doable, instead of overwhemling. And it felt like I was sitting on a glass floor. I couldn't go any lower than a certain level, no matter how bad things got. It was a fantastic saftey net.

I tried to get off my meds and have been off them for a year, but things are getting out of hand so I'm planning on getting back on Welbutrin soon.

Zoloft made me very sleepy.

Oh, and when I was on meds, I only need to go in to a therapists once every other month. So it didn't take that much time.

Owl "

" Cymbalta is for anxiety and depression and it has changed my life. It is the only medication that helped me with anxiety. I strongly recommend it. "

" I have always suffered with anxiety & sometimes it is so overwhelming that I feel exhausted. It's difficult to explain to people how tired I feel & the reason why. I haven't found a solution yet that really works for me. It is helpful to know I am not the only one who feels this way. "
