Advice:
Do I have an anxiety disorder?

Since my senior year started I've gotten really stressed out. Sometimes I get so stressed out and nervous that I feel dizzy and like I'm not getting enough air and I have to make myself yawn in order to get enough air.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I do know that I shouldn't have to yawn to be able to breathe in enough air. That's just ridiculous.

Its been happening a lot lately.. I just want to know what's going on with me.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

" Senior year--they put such pressure on you then! I remember my kids wondering how they would make it. Try to notice when you first start feeling tense. Then, watch your breathing by taking deep breaths with your diaphram and blowing out for six times. Also try to picture a quiet, peaceful place you'd like to be in. "

" Fits the definition of anxiety perfectly. Though, it may not necessarily mean you have a disorder. That is up to a psychiatrist to decide. We all have episodes from time to time, but if the episodes are prolonged (lasting days to weeks at a time) without little relief, or are increasingly constant over the course of several months or years, you likely do. But I am not a doctor, that is just from my experiences. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder nearly 15 years ago and that is the best advice I can give. "

" i yawn alot when i get anxious. probably because it changes your breathing. but like adam says, it does not mean you have a disorder. I think they class you as having a disorder when it greatly effects your quality of life and is recurring. "

" Medically, yawning is your body's wau of increasing your oxygen. you might want to have a physical first to make sure everything is working right. You might be just super tired as well. I remember being super busy when I was a senior and there was so many things to do besides school. Are you getting enough sleep?

AS a senior perhaps your brain is too full of all that knowlege lol and you do not have any more room lol. Seriously, I think senior year is stressful for everyone, but a lot of people just dont admit it..some peoploe do not even understand how important senior year is to adulthood but it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders!! If it is anxiety, it might be just a temporary thing because of how busy you are. I know it seems like there are a ton of tests, papers due, projects and then social life. Yo0u might want to take a little time out for yourself doing something fun. tell your mom or dad you need a break, and go somewhere fun for a few hours. Something physical would be good, like an amusemnent park or paintball shooting...or bowling see how you feel then. "

" Sound's more like a bit of pani then anxiety but nothing to worry about. You can eliminate it quickly if it s just started. Find a quiet place even if it s going into the toilet cubicle . Sit down and take slow deep breaths, hold for say 4 secs and breathe out . Have your hand on your tummy and feel it rise and fall with every breathe. Put everything thats on your mind aside. Do this maybe 5 or more times until you feel your stomach muscles relax . Than when this feels comfortable hold for 5 secs and count out for 5 an so on. Continue this for a few days until you have changed your breathing pattern to abdominal and each breath lasts longer. It's all about teaching ourselves to breath properly which most of us don't do , but it really does work. "
