I had a son about 5 months ago and have developed some postpartum depression and anxiety. I did what I could to battle it myself such as eating healthy and excercising, praying and reading the Bible and other self help books. I felt like I was doing alright until a month ago when I woke up in the morning vomiting. I lost my appetite completely, spent the whole day feeling nauseas, vomiting or dry heaving. I was consumed by anxiety that I was going to die. I put up with this for a month before I ended up in the hospital where they did every test on me and determined that all of my physical problems were caused by anxiety. I found that hard to believe, but I am dealing with it. I started Xanax and Lexapro 2 days ago and am looking for some hope and support that I will be feeling better soon. Everyone tells me that within a week my symptoms should subside and I will feel better. Has anyone had this experience with being physically ill because of anxiety and depression? How long did it take you to start feeling better? I'm praying for strength every day to make it through this!

Yes, I have been in your situation and to tell you how long everyone is diffrent but it does get better. Never give up hope and you need to keep working at it. I suffered P.T.S. and it took me nearly 3 years to get back to normal.
have a nice day Rachel

Give the meds some time to work and it should get better. Also keep praying. That is a big help knowing you are talking to God.

I know what you are saying. The meds will help alot but do not get over excited by others telling you that you will feel better in a week. Everyone is different so no one knows how long it will take before you feel better. Hang in there and enjoy that precious baby boy!!!

Yes i have the exact same thing going on with me right now.
I think it varies from person to person on how long it lasts love. your xanx should provide some imeadiate relief and your lexapro will take a little time to kick in. try and drink plenty of water and take chicken broth or chicken noodle soup if you can and some cold boost, our bodies become weak when we dont have food in our system. Hang in there and bit by bit things should improve xx.

When I was first put on meds, I did not start to feel better and I fell into such a hole of hopelessness that I would never get better. Finally went back to the doc who upped my dosage and in
a week I was so much better. So I guess my advice is, if you don't feel better the first time out of the gate don't despair. You may just need a higher dosage. But be sure to talk to your doc.

I can relate. Once I got the right med, it put me on the path to feeling well again so that I didn't need it anymore. It worked for me pretty quickly. I was on Xanax.
