i JUST READ THAT PERIMENOPAUSAL WOMAN SUFFER FROM ANXIETY. MINE IS OFF THE CHARTS AND I JUST STARED GETTING HOT FLASHES WITH PANIC ATTACKS...

Hi. I am premenopausal and suffer from anxiety as well. I am on zoloft for anxiety right now, and seems to help a little bit so far. I am not on any hormonal meds as of yet. According to my Dr, hormones are quite safe to take while you are going thru menopause, but after you have gone thru menopause it is best not to be on hormonal replacements.

I'm the queen of depression and anxiety when going through menopause. I was so severe I couldn't get off the floor. Mine was caused by other physiological things, too, but the hormones played a major role. I have been on HRT a long time, but since getting so ill have switched to bio-identical hormones that I have made at a compounding pharmacy. Right now we have me worked down to a 30% estradial (same estrogen as body makes) and 70% estrial (estrogen that is the least dangerous. When I try to go off altogether, the depression starts to hit again. Also, a very big clue is to use progesterone cream (not progestin) with it...it helps as a buffer against the estrogen doing bad things, and it also helps a lot with anxiety. I'm hoping to wean off entirely one day, but not ready to face that yet. Too much stress in my life. You are doing the right thing by getting your hormone levels checked...

Iam 44 and have been in pre-menopause for about 4-5 years. Anxiety hit hard this year for me. Got my hormones checked, started using progesterone cream (compounded) and it has really helped. I understand about the panic attacks! Thats good your getting your hormones checked. You are on the right track. Black Cohosh is good for hot flashes too. Iam also using Passion flower and Inositol (b vit) besides my regular vitamins. I use 5-HTP at night with a little melatonin. 5-htp raises seratonin naturally in the brain. My anxiety was off the charts for a while too. I still have my moments. HOpe this helps!

YES PERIMENOPAUSE CAN REALLY THROW A CURVE INTO ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION-ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN WORKED THROUGH.-FOR YEARS I WAS ON A SUB THERAPEUTIC DOSE OF MEDICATIONS AND THEN A HOST OF HEALTHISSUES PLUS THE PAST ISSUES PLUS MEDICATIONS REALLY MESSED ME UP-SLPA

I have been battling with increasing anxiety/depression and am now 50. I havn't worked in 2 yrs. I am convinced that perimenopause is causing most of the problems. Periods are tortuously painful and anxiety is beyond belief at times. Doctors here, although I havn't been to many, seem disinterested. I would love to know where to go and get a good GP who would help. I was very interested in the bio-identical hormones mentioned here. Last lot of tests my hormone levels were not even checked! I despair often. It seem crazy that in 2007 someones life can be stuffed over something medicine is supposed to know about. If in doubt, check it out.

I know as a man, I probably have no business. But i have been reading how hormonal imbalances can be the cause of anxiety in women and men. I found a nutritionalist in my area that works mostly with women to help resolve this but she told me that it can affect men as well. She had me order a hormone home test kit so we'll see...
