I have just been prescribed cipralex-it is the first type of antidepressant I've ever been on (Before I have just been given diazepam to help deal with certain things)
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of it-and whether or not it helped???

" Hi Blossom,

It wasn't for me as I reacted badly and had quite nasty side-effects, although that doesn't mean it will for you.

Loads of people swear by it and say that it it gave them the strength to progress. Loads of research and studies show that apart from Prozac, Escitalopram is the most tolerable SSRI available.

Did they put you on 10mg?

There is a few posts already on here about it, but don't take too much notice of my one about a week ago.

Most people tolerate is very well. I'm just one of the few that it didn't help.

By the way...it takes quite a while for your body to build up on the drug before you start seeing any benefits.

My side effects were insomnia, loss of apetite and jaw clenching/teeth grinding and at that particular time, my mum was ill, so I needed sleep and food for the energy to look after her so my doc said to stop taking them after a week.

Hope all goes well for you and please keep us all updated.

Speak soon... Stu "

" cipralex works well for me. I had no side effects. I think it is wearing off a bit now, and my anxiety is getting worse, but not my depression. "

" I've looked into this a bit today-and a lot of people have mentioned how it does work for them, but the it gradually wears off-on average how long does it work for people, before it seems to get ineffective?? "

" I hope it doesn't wear off because it's just barely starting to help me - I have no side effects except maybe incrased anxiety and insomnia unless I drink wine or take something to sleep - ARGH - I just started taking 20mg "

" Not all patients react to benzodiazapines the same way. Are you on 20 of cipralex??? Adjunctively, perhaps another from such as alprazolam, rather that diazepam , will work for you. I did for me. "

" i have been on 10mg of cipralex for almost 3years now.it is still helping me with my anxiety and depression. A lot of the side effects go away after about 3 weeks of taking it except for the sexual ones. That really sucks! "
