Hi there

I am on the PE support group on this site but wanted to join this group to ask some questions. After my PE they ran all the genetic tests etc to see what could have caused my PE's , they think it was due to my pregnany/c-section etc.. BUT my Lupas Anticoag test came back positive..my doc says since they ran these tests while I was in the hospital and still had the Heparin in my system it could create a false positive, is this true? He said I would have to restest in a couple months BUT now I am on the Warfarin, won't that have an affect on the retest?

" Read my post that I just wrote. Called LA test Warfarin confusion. You will get your answer at least what my doctor said. Good luck to you. I wish you the best! I also wrote it on the PE group. My PE was caused by BOTH the Lupus Anticoagulant (I found out about it after being released from the hospital) and the high dose estrogen birth control pill that I will never be able to take again. I now I have a no estrogen IUD which is the best thing ever. No periods! Send me a message if you want to chat. HUGS "

" Hi Lisa,
Did they test you for the MTHFR gene? If this gene is double mutated, it can cause blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks. I have this, found by my high risk ob before I got pregnant. You may want to check to see if you had this test done. If you test positive for this genetic mutation then you need to take folic acid for life.

Blood thinners do not affect the auto immune related tests done. It merely thins the blood. So, it would not affect the LA test being positive. What you were told is untrue but many dr.s who are not knowlegable about APS will tell you what you were told. Just like April was. What would affect the LA blood test would be if you were on steroids or plaquenil. Something that supresses the immune system from producing the anti-bodies. When you get tested again, request the Beta 2 glycoprotein test which is more accurate for APS as well as the LA and cardioplin test. I would suggest finding a good rheumatologist who is knowlegable about APS for your re-tests. The good ones know the proper tests and treatments for APS as well as knowing all the other problems APS can cause to our bodies. It can cause more issues other then just clotting and there are other meds then just blood thinners used to control it. Most hematologist arent knowlegable enough about the auto-immune part of this disease. Usually they test 6 weeks apart for the LA, beta 2 glycoprotein test to make sure they were accurate results. If it comes out positive more then once then most likely you have APS. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I have had APS for over 10 years and am very sick from it. Im on a lot of meds to control it. Hope this all made sense. APS affects my brain so my emails can sound like a jumbled mess at times.
Hugs
Melissa "
