Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here. I'm 19 years old and a female. I was diagnosed with AS in March. In April I started my Remicade infusions, and just finished the 4th one about 2 weeks ago. I also had my appointment with my Rheumy then and he said that he didn't feel like the Remicade alone was being effective enough, because I was still have a considerable amount of pain in my hips and ribs. He started me on Methotrexate (3 pills, once a week) because he says that it will make the Remicade more effective. Are any of you guys using this combination and if so is it working? Also, I'm worried about the side effects of Methotrexate, what have been your side effects?

" Good morning, I was one of the first patients to get Remicade treatments and after a couple of years I got Lymphoma Cancer from it. Make sure your doctor tells you all the side affects before you start taking this long term. I have had Ankylosing Spondy. since I was young and never new I had it until I was about 26 years old. I have tried almost every drug in the market. I just try top stay busy and keep my mind busy as well. I am taking 500mg of Naproxen two to three times a day and that helps to keep me stable enough to work and coach sports which I love to do. Well I hope you feel better but make sure you ask your doctor all the questions you need to to make you feel comfortable. I know for a fact that Remicade does cause cancer if you take it long enough. " Hi Meggers,

I've been on enbrel for 6 months and started methotrexate 2 weeks ago. I take 4 tabs (10mg) on Friday. it makes me very nauseated, dizzy at first and then I get diarrhea for a day. I'm hoping for relief from the methotrexate because the enbrel alone hasn't helped at all. I suffer from severe pain in my hips, buttocks and lower back and I'm hoping the drugs will finally decrease the inlflamation that's causing all of the pain. Hopefully we can make it through the side effects to see some relief from our combination therapy. "

" Good Morning, I started taking Methotrexate in August. I'm 59 years old, after years of being misdiagnoised I now know I have AS. Methotrexate, Folic Acid and Meloxicam are not working for me. My Dr. wanted to start me on Humira, but my insurance would not cover it until I tried other drugs. My next Dr. appointment is next week. I hoping to begin one of the other drugs suggested by my insurance. If something doesn't help soon I may have to retire early. The side effects of Methotrexate have not been too bad for me. Just some nausua and weakness. I take six tablets on Friday night and most of the side effects have worn off by Monday. "
