26th October i had my first 2 angina attacks, didn't know what it was, it was chest pains, and a pain across my shoulder blades, and tingles down my left arm. The first one i just fobbed off, thought i was having abit of a panic attack, i went home, got into bed and had 5 hours sleep, when i woke up i walked to the kitchen and had another one, a more painful one, then i sent a message to my friend, who insisted she take me to A&E, we got there, told the tri-ad nurse, and before i knew it, tests, bloods, ecgs, you name it, next i was told a bed was waiting for me. Back in April i was told i had small subcortial vessel disease of the brain, as i had had a small blood clot on the front of my brain, hence the memory loss. While in hospital, i had alot of tests. I was told on 30th after the ECG treadmill, that i have Mild Angina, with the history that my Mum had the same thing diagnosed when she was 42, and my Sister having a major heart attack when she was 44, and a treble bypass coming up, i have been really scared.
I am also in the process of changing doctors, so i have to wait for my notes to be passed to my new doctors. The advice i would like to have is, its mild angina, what is full blown angina feel like, cos the past 7 days i have had 6 attacks, and they are very painful, more than i have experience any type of pain before. Also, i have to lose weight, and i have to get fit, which all in place to do the tablets, and also to do the exercises, upto now i am only taking the asprin. I just really need someone to please tell me they know what i am going through, and that i am not alone, as i am petrified. I am 40, i do not feel old at all, i feel i want to live another 40 years, and i will fight it, do as i am told, but i am just petrified and scared, any advice will be well appreciated. Thank you Helen xxx Posted on 11/02/07, 03:11 pm |

advice in your circumstance is not an easy task because your fear comes from your angina pain and this is what is scaring you. Angina pain relief = emotional stress relief .It might be a good idea to tell your doctor that . I think we all have a fair chance at living a long time heart disease care is out there we just have to be sure we are getting it because realisticly heart disease is the silent killer and it is one area of health which tells the truth about all doctors . If they don't find anything or diagnose people from basic knowledge without proper testing or ability to recognize the signs you will know your doctor is not a good one and its time to move along to another Doc . Trust and Faith are complicated things but necessary . I wish the best and will pray for you .You're allowed to feel uncomfortable about your situation just don't let it consume you .

There are two causes of angina:
one, arterial blockage. That's what happens when you have buildup of arterial plaque. Arterial plaque is a combination of platelets and certain fats. Two, vasoconstriction. Read a little about vasoconstriction at the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasoc... Typically the two work in tandem to produce the condition that we call angina. Angina is the result of insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle. Like any muscle, when it is fatigued the heart is unable to keep up with the demands. Imagine trying to run up several flights of stairs and getting to the point that your legs just don't want to work any more. What happens? Eventually your legs give out. But the heart is wired a little differently. Instead of giving out it will try to do whatever it can to keep you going, and that may mean forcing you to stop what you're doing so that the heart doesn't need to work as hard. The pain that you're feeling is sending just the right message. Now you need to see what a doctor can do to help.
