Question for nurses or anyone really

My name is Jennifer and I'm 29years old. I had a ruptured Brain aneurysm on 02/08/09. Before the aneurysm I was tking Human Anatomy because zi've always wanted to be a nurse. Well tonight I was talking to one of my best friends and I was tellin her that I might consider starting out as a LPN first and then work my way up because of the memory issues. and the weekness I have in my left side. She then told me because of what happened to me that I would never be able to be a nurse. It really hurt my feelings and left me in a state of shock. I was wondering if anyone knows a nurse that this happened to or if you were able to return to work without any problems. I feel really lost right now because I don' want to sit at home the rest of my life and collect disability. I want a career. that mens something. Any advise would be great.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

" Jennifer, no one should be telling you that you can't be what you want to be; that's not very supportive! You can be whatever you want to be- a nurse, whatever. . . As long as you want it; go for it- it's your life - live it! Just be realistic about your expectations, alright? I'm sorry you feel lost. That friend of yours needs a good talking to for telling you what she did about never being able to be a nursel that's terrible! Please take care, and God bless. Remember, if there's a will, there's a way! "

" Hi Jennifer
I have been a nurse since 1980 and worked several different positions up untill my aneurysm rupture in 2005. Nursing is a very rewarding career, the money is descent but I will have to say is stressfull at times. If this is you dream to study nursing you should go for it and not let anyone tell you otherwise.
The study and training is intense at times, I'm not trying to scare you only giving you an eye opener as to what is involved. How much trouble do you have with memory and information recall? as there is ALOT to learn. I did not go back after my rupture and surgery, I was 45 yeasr old when this happened and my memory recall is poor and my ability to think quick and multitask is effected so I went to disability. Everyone of us is different and our minds are all different as they were effected by having the rupture so you have to go by how YOU feel you can handle all of this, it is not something other people can tell you, I hope this helped, Maybe start with a nursing assistant course, see how you do in retaining all the information and go from there, good luck to you, I wish you well,
Ruthie "
