Diagnostic test or not?

Hi,
I'm brand new here. I just found out I have a 2mm aneurysm and met with a specialist who suggested I get a diagnostic angiogram. I was ready to schedule it but started reading and thinking about the risk of the procedure vs. the risk of watching it because the doctors have told me it's tiny and has less than one percent risk of rupturing. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Catherine

" Hi Catherine,

Welcome to our board! Here are my thoughts:

I've had two angiograms and a coiling surgery on a 5mm aneurysm, all with no complications. I also have a 2mm aneruysm as well (untreated for now) that was discovered with the first angiogram. Angiograms are no big deal if you are healthy. Even if you end up deciding against treatment, personally I would want to know what's going on up there and I would want a baseline in my records. Listen to your doctor.

BTW, that's 1% chance per year for the rest of your life which is an important distinction for me.

Good luck, whatever your decision.

" I had an aneurysm rupture at 5mm. 2 years ago. Still recovering after an 8 wk. stay in hospital and coiling done. Other things done too to my head. This past June had another annie 5mm. but this time it was coiled before it ruptured. Two day stay in hospital and about 5 wks. recovery time at home. To this day I am still recovering and know I will never be the same person I once was. The tests are nothing to what can be should you rupture. Take care and consider the tests. Angiograms are not so bad and you just have to be still for hours afterwards. "

" Thanks Ron and Grannycare for your posts. I am back to thinking I will get the diagnostic test. I meet with my neurologist this week who discovered it and will discuss with him everything and then most likely make the appointment with the specialist. My big concern is that I have a 4-year old and the test has a risk of stroke, which really scares me!

" I had a Anurysm Burst June 21 2007, I was completly unaware of anything like this. The next thing I remember it was September and I was in a rehab facility. many things happened because of the burst. I did have a stroke and was on a ventilator for over 3 months. the whole experience has been very scarey, but now two years later I am greatful for my Dr's therapist and nurses.recovery has me in better shape both physically and mentally than before the Anurysm. I for one would like to be a friend and be here for any support you need with your decision. my prayers are with you "

" Thanks for your response! Did you know you had an aneurysm previous to the rupture? Do you know what size it was? "

" I had no idea I had such a thing or how big. See my pictures. Please take your Dr's advice. the test is no big deal or anything to worry about.
E-mail me if you want more information.
Best of luck..Oldboy scout..Dale "
